A word about North West

Okay, in principle I am for the live-and-let-live principle. And I can very well imagine that as the daughter of A-list celebrities, you often come into contact with more extremely dressed people and that your blueprint for taste and style is just a little different than if your mother thinks a pair of jeans and a jacket is enough. So I understand that North West's clothing style is a bit extravagant.

But now that I saw her latest TikTok on Page Six.com, I did raise an eyebrow. Not only did she have a black brace, mint green hair, spike bracelets, and a skull necklace with, if I have to believe Page Six, a 106-carat diamond in it. Now, 106 carats is almost impossible, usually, you talk about 24 carats as an indicator of pure gold. The value of a gram of 24-carat gold is about €110, and considering the chunk that North has hanging around her neck, we are quickly talking about a necklace worth tens of thousands of euros. For Kim Kardashian, that is equivalent to what a currant bun is for me, but still. She is a girl. Of 12.

I think, yes it is my opinion and maybe you are not waiting for that at all, that it can all be a little less with North West. I felt that already when she sang at a performance of The Lion King I Just Can’t Wait to Be King. And that, dear people, was not pure. The story goes that Kanye bought this performance for his daughter. And that was probably for Kanye comparable to the value of a doughnut for us.

North received mountains of criticism and that is immediately my point. Because where her parents may have thought they were helping her, they put her in a vulnerable position where a young girl cannot yet assess for herself. She had to earn her place, maybe even more than the others, because Beyoncé wants to prevent at all times that it seems like she is favoring her daughter.

North West is a nice, special, and unique girl, who had to deal with paparazzi when she couldn't even pronounce the word yet. And wherever she goes, there is someone who wants something from her, which alienates. Every time I hear her actual age, I am a little shocked again. She is 12. And with two mastodons as parents, she will surely go far in life, but I still wish her a little bit of a childhood. As long as it can still be.
