Seeing the Northern Lights in Finland: this is the perfect moment

I think seeing the Northern Lights is on just about everyone’s bucket list. It’s really one of those dreams you’ve been carrying with you for years. And if there’s ever a perfect moment to actually go do it, it’s from March 20 to 21 this year. I’ll explain why that weekend is so special in a moment. But getting there is surprisingly simple. With Uber.

Yes, you read that right.

With Uber Aurora to see the Northern Lights in Rovaniemi, Lapland

Uber is organizing a guided tour of about six hours, including snacks and hot drinks, from Rovaniemi in Lapland towards the Northern Lights. And if you’re thinking: this sounds too good to be true, just wait. It’s free. You simply book the ride through the Uber app, just like you do when going to a dinner. Only this time you won’t get out at a wine bar, but under a sky full of green dancing lights.

I’ve shared fun Uber facts here on AMAYZINE before. Uber Pets , for example, which allows you to travel without hassle with your dog or cat. Or Uber XL, ideal if you’re going to a festival with a group of friends and no one wants to be the designated driver. But Uber Aurora, which literally takes you towards the Northern Lights, is definitely in a different category.

Why 2026 is a great year to see the Northern Lights

The weekend when spring begins is known as one of the best times to spot the Northern Lights. And 2026 is particularly favorable because the sun is exceptionally active at this time. That means the Northern Lights are visible more often and more intensely. As if the cosmos itself decides to show off.

The Northern Lights are such a natural phenomenon that leaves you speechless. An Arctic spectacle that acts like a magnet for anyone longing for an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life and literally color it. With Uber Aurora, it becomes almost ridiculously easy to experience the Northern Lights in Finland. No complicated bookings or separate excursions, just open the app and with a smooth motion, you’ve booked.

How does Uber Aurora work in Rovaniemi, Lapland?

Aurora is a temporary Northern Lights experience that can be booked via the Uber app in Rovaniemi, Lapland. You will be picked up and brought back after a guided tour of six to eight hours, led by local experts from tour operator Arctic GM. Including snacks and hot drinks, because cold and magic go hand in hand.

The experience is free and temporary, with a limited number of spots available. Reservations can be made starting March 5 at 1:00 PM via the Uber app.

Maurits Schönfeld, Senior Director of Uber in Northern Europe, says about it:
“The Northern Lights are high on many people’s bucket lists and attract travelers from all over the world to Lapland. With Uber Aurora, we can show more visitors this extraordinary natural phenomenon and let them experience the Arctic landscape at its most magical moment.”

See the Northern Lights for free: this is your sign

I find it extraordinary. The Northern Lights themselves, but also the idea that you can suddenly stand in the middle of such a grand natural setting via an app. So if you’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights in Finland, if you’ve ever thought: I’ll see that light someday… then I would say: this is your sign.
