This is why you really want to see People We Meet on Vacation
(and totally gives you romcom summer vibes)

Give me a romcom from the 2000s and I'm sold. Because let's be honest: can you think of ten good, new romantic films? My faith in romcoms has been restored by Eterniteit and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, but ditching those classics? Never. They are more popular than ever and I don’t blame them. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia and that’s exactly why filmmakers do everything they can to replicate that feeling. They’ve managed to do just that again. Are you ready for a summer romance that will make you feel like a giggling 16-year-old girl in bed? Then this is your lucky day, because the latest installment: People We Meet on Vacation, has just come online. I will explain to you why you really need to add this to your watchlist.
After worldwide success, it doesn’t surprise the average booktokker (you know, the book side of TikTok) that the bestseller People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry is being adapted into a film. Her books are so successful that they have literally all been announced for the big screen. If that doesn’t convince you that you need to see this film, let’s go a bit further. Because what is it actually about?
Slow burn and friends to lovers… But then on vacation
The story follows two childhood friends: Alex (Tom Blyth) and Poppy (Emily Bader). These unexpected friends are as different as can be, yet they can’t live without each other. The adventurous Poppy drags the always-thinking Alex everywhere. Just like in the book, we dive into all their vacations over a period of ten years. Because here’s the thing: Poppy and Alex go on vacation together every year. Even though they don’t see each other the whole year, those vacations are a fixed ritual.
Time and again, they experience a week full of adventures, cocktails, a lot of sun, and chemistry that is secretly a bit scary. After a vacation in Croatia goes completely wrong, the friendship between the two seems to be over once and for all. Until Poppy organizes a last-ditch vacation to Palm Springs. Can this trip mend the cracks? Or do they need to face their true feelings? You can probably guess the ending, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.
Ultimate summer vibes in this winter cold
Are you freezing under a duvet in bed wishing summer would come faster? Then this film is basically your vitamin D, with all those sweaty summer dresses, dream destinations, ice cream, and palm trees. I would love to hop from hotel room to hotel room. Even if it might be awkward, at least I’d be in a warm country and not here with -3 in storm Goretti. Go ahead and daydream and take a mini-summer vacation while we wait for it to thaw.
For this star-studded cast, you’ll run to Netflix
Besides the fact that this story is full of drama and outbursts about crazy feelings can happen at any moment, there’s another reason why you want to see this film: the star-studded cast. First of all, the lead roles are played by the hottest actors of the moment. You have of course Tom Blyth, the handsome blonde from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The other lead role is played by Emily Bader, who acted her heart out in My Lady Jane. And if you’ve seen the trailer, you know that the chemistry between these two is insane. So I’m definitely looking forward to that. Furthermore, you’ll see even more big names like Lukas Gage and Sarah Catherine Hook (from The White Lotus), and Jameela Jamil (from The Good Place).
So. What do you have planned for today? Probably nothing in the evening, so you can already watch this feel-good romcom. Grab that blanket and put on those fuzzy socks, because you’re not getting off that couch for almost two hours.
