Are you spending your Monday morning watching the Coachella vlog of Monica Geuze? I can understand that. Although we should actually get back to work fresh and fruity, I can’t think of anything else either. So I walked down the stairs first thing after brushing my teeth with a song in my head: Sugar Talking by Sabrina Carpenter. If there’s one thing that stuck with me from Sabrinawood, Sabrina’s show, it’s that performance. Her chemistry with that dancer was really insane, so I want to know one thing: who is that dancer? I found the answer: he’s just Dutch. Yes, seriously. This is the dancer who stole everyone’s heart at Coachella.

From Helmond to Hollywood

Dancing is in Mauro’s blood. Since he can remember, dancing has been his passion. As a three-year-old boy, he was already imitating Michael Jackson’s dance moves in front of the television. After years of dancing, he went through the same busy mill that many dancers follow: competitions, championship titles, and eventually participating in a talent show. In 2017, he won Holland’s Got Talent. This was the sign for him that dancing really had a future. At the end of his bachelor’s degree he noticed that it was quite difficult to combine dancing with ‘normal life’: “I remember that we were in Berlin to shoot the music video for Rush by Troye Sivan. In the morning, I was dancing half-naked around Troye, and in the evening, I was writing my thesis. That contrast was funny.’ After that one video, he went viral on social media, and the rest is history.

Touring with the biggest

Troye Sivan was such a fan of Mauro that he got to join him on his world tour. He traveled for seven months from Europe and North America to Australia and New Zealand. During this whirlwind, he danced in 51 shows in the biggest arenas. After dancing in Madison Square Garden, it doesn’t surprise me that Sabrina thought: “I want that dancer at Coachella.” Just like with all his assignments, Mauro managed to get, yes, also next to Sabrina Carpenter, all the attention.

Coachella was really next level for him. He was not only part of a group of dancers, but he also had an intimate performance with Sabrina herself. They danced together to the song Sugar Talking, which is about how Sabrina doesn’t want to fall for a charmer again. In this Broadway-like performance, they act out that Mauro wants to woo her at all costs. And if you thought you recognized this scene from a movie, you’re right. Every detail is based on that one dance scene from Dirty Dancing. Sabrina’s turtleneck and her pantyhose, for example. Oh, and those dance moves, of course. The part where she and Mauro crawl towards each other, just like Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze did? That was really amazing to see.

So yes, you can really make it as a Dutch dancer. We haven’t seen enough of this cutie yet. Where will he pop up next? In Sabrina’s music video? Maybe. But we are sure that he will go even further.
