Your first sleepover at your in-laws' house

Staying at your in-laws: for one it's a sleepover and for the other a stressful night. Whether you're staying overnight with your partner or alone, it can sometimes feel uncomfortable, even though it's the next big step in your relationship. For everyone who doesn't find it a relaxing idea: don't worry, I'm here to guide you through this mini-vacation.
Feel at home
If you've made it this far that you can stay over, it's probably been said to you dozens of times: “Act like you're at home.” This is easier said than done, but believe me, really try it. Act like you're at home: when you enter, greet everyone who is home and take off your shoes. Make yourself comfortable and put your things away in the place where you will be sleeping. You don't want to be in anyone's way here. And okay, okay, with “making yourself comfy” I don't mean that you can walk around topless, but make sure you feel good. For example, brew yourself a nice cup of tea – and of course, ask if your in-laws would like one too.
The in-laws bathroom rule
Don't occupy the bathroom for too long. This can be difficult for some people, but do try. Shower for no longer than five minutes and when you're done showering, get dressed right away. When you do your hair and makeup, you can leave the door open and be available in case someone else wants to use the bathroom after you.
A little something for your in-laws
A flower, or a new tea flavor you've discovered, a bottle of wine or a delicious homemade bread; you come with a small thank you because you get to use their place for a night. And please, don't mention a new bag or Chanel sunglasses, it's not a luxury hotel and you don't want to set the standards too high, right? Here find the best gifts for your in-laws.
Help with cooking
Maybe your mother-in-law doesn't like someone else in her kitchen, but always offer to help cook. Share your favorite recipe and suggest going grocery shopping and making it for them. Is it too busy for you? Then you can always offer to lend a hand, for example by peeling the potatoes. Oh, and after dinner, of course, you help clear the table and clean the kitchen, this is not a hotel.
The sleepover
Maybe you've watched TV together, played games, or watched YouTube on your phone. The evening is over anyway and it's time to go to bed. Let them know you're going to sleep and if you're the last one going upstairs, make sure to lock everything up properly and discuss together who will do this. Don't set 100 alarms for the next day, that way you prevent the whole house from waking up.
Good morning in-laws
Are you not a morning person? Well, now you are. Take the bedding off the bed and put it in the corner of the room. Continue with your normal morning routine and don't stay upstairs too long. Discuss the night before what time you'll roughly be awake, so your in-laws can take that into account. Also discuss together whether you'll have breakfast together or separately. Well, ‘Good morninggg’ and immediately suggest doing a load of laundry with the bedding. Let them know when you're leaving and discuss whether the door should be locked.
Always stay relaxed and if you have a good relationship with your in-laws, all of this will actually come naturally. Score a nice -and not too sexy- pajama and have fun.
