New on Netflix in March

By

Do you remember the series ‘Adolescence’? Of course you do, you'll think. Surely that series is not that old. Well, so it's been a year anyway. I know, bizarre how fast time goes. But with a new month of March comes new Netflix titles, and there are some gems among them. I take you through the best films and series. What will be the hit this time that we will still be talking about next year?

Lady Bird (18 March on Netflix)

What do the films ‘Little Women’ and ‘Barbie’ have in common? Well, actually two things: they are top favourites AND they were made by Greta Gerwig. But even before these two hits she managed to score, and that gem is now coming to Netflix (again). In ‘Lady Bird’, we follow Christine McPherson (Saoirse Ronan), who calls herself Lady Bird. She is about to graduate high school and resents just about everything and everyone around her. Her mother in particular takes the brunt of it, even though she works the hardest to keep the family afloat.

Lady Bird dreams of studying in New York, away from the boring, miserable life she knows. But the closer she gets to that next step, the more she realises that maybe all is not so bad, especially her mother. Definitely recommended to watch with your adolescent, though this is a film for everyone anyway.

Age of Attraction (11 March on Netflix)

If you thought we had all kinds of dating shows by now, well, good riddance. ‘Age of Attraction’ is here, and this is going to be different again. The title already gives something away, because this series is all about age. Well, actually not quite. Participants between 22 and 60 go in search of a new partner, but exactly how old everyone is remains a secret for now. The trailer promises blossoming romances and the one question that could ruin everything: is age indeed just a number?

The Memory Game (18 March on Netflix)

Those who don't feel like reading subtitles for a while: there are some Dutch gems coming up again, too. How about ‘Het Geheugenspel’, for instance? Might sound like an innocent game of memory, but it certainly isn't. This mysterious thriller revolves around the Deridder family. While working in the garden of their country house, the body of Nathalie Deridder, the daughter who suddenly disappeared 25 years earlier, is found by chance.

The uncertainty about her missing may be over, but the find starts a whole new drama. For Eva (Anna Drijver), who was married to Nathalie's brother, all sorts of memories surface. Only they are vague and something always seems wrong. A hypnotherapist is supposed to help her get clarity, but is that really the key to the truth? After all, how reliable are her memories? What really happened at that family party then?

Virgin River season 7 (12 March on Netflix)

We had to wait for over a year, but our favourite lovebirds are finally back. I am of course talking about Mel and Jack from ‘Virgin River’, and as we have come to expect from this couple, there is plenty of romance as well as drama waiting for us again. Their first few months as newlyweds are fraught with obstacles, especially with an adoption on the horizon, if it goes ahead.

Things are also shaken up for Hope and Doc when Hope's ex-husband suddenly reappears. And how will Lizzy and Denny fare when their baby arrives? I could go on and on with all these burning questions. The answers are in sight, and 12 March is circled large in the diary.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (20 March on Netflix)

Surely we can call it the end of an era: Cillian Murphy one more time as Tommy Shelby in ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’. In the chaos of World War II, he is driven out of self-imposed exile for his fiercest confrontation yet. Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan plays Duke Shelby, Tommy's son, who keeps the Peaky Blinders going in old-fashioned ruthless fashion. With his family's future and perhaps even more at stake, Tommy has to make choices. Does he finally look his legacy straight in the eye, or does he burn it all down? The trailer alone is enough to throw you right back into Birmingham. The Peaky fookin’ Blinders.

That Night (13 March on Netflix)

Good news for all thriller fans: there may be another series on your watchlist. In ‘That Night’, a carefree sun holiday turns into a complete nightmare. In the Dominican Republic, Elena (Clara Galle) gets into big trouble when she hits a man. But instead of calling the police, she panics and calls her sisters.

For Paula (Claudia Salas) and Cris (Paula Usero), the thought of their sister going to jail and leaving her infant son behind is unbearable. So they will have to find a solution together, a choice that pushes them to their limits. How far do you dare to go for your family?

The Invisible Man (20 March on Netflix)

When Elisabeth Moss is in something, you basically know it's going to be good. We saw that with ‘The Handmaid's Tale’. For ‘The Invisible Man’, we give a little warning in advance: according to fans, this film is not good for your heart, so exciting.

After a suffocating relationship, Cecilia (Moss) has finally managed to escape her abusive ex. She goes into hiding, until she learns he has committed suicide. It seems the definitive end to an anxious period, but Cecilia has a feeling that something is not right. Did her ex stage his death?

A series of unexplained events turns everything upside down and also puts Cecilia's loved ones in danger. Her desperation grows by the day. After all, how do you prove someone is after you if no one can see them?
