This one excuse always works for cheaters

Cheating happens, but how do you sell that at home a bit smoothly? You can come up with quite a few reasons why you can get away with those naughty activities. But there seems to be one excuse that is a true classic among cheaters: this excuse just works (almost) all the time.

For many, maintaining an extramarital affair is a delicate and risky game. It requires not only discretion and secrecy but often also a clever excuse to avoid possible discovery. In the world of deception and betrayal, cheaters often have their own tricks and tactics to get out of tight situations. One of the most used and successful tools in their arsenal? The irresistible excuse of ‘work commitments’. Widely used, but it also works best.

Psychologists explain why this is the case. You simply don't know 100 percent about your partner's work and you don't know everything and everyone. So it could very well be true that he is home late on that Thursday night, because, well, how would you know if his department has a meeting and a dinner? You don't know all those colleagues, so you just can't verify with certainty whether your partner is lying or not. And so it could very well be that there is a party from a colleague. Or a long meeting, an extra workday, and so on. You can't quickly prove it, and that's why this is an excuse that almost always works for everyone who cheats. Work is your own thing, and that's why it's the ultimate trick to fool your partner.

But, to be fair: usually things come out sooner or later anyway. So don't count yourself too quickly rich with this excuse. But if your partner has ‘news’ at work time and again, or has a different dinner with a nice colleague every week? Then it certainly doesn't hurt to ask if you can join. See how he or she reacts, usually says enough in case of doubt about cheating.
