This summer tableware from ZARA HOME is something everyone wants
I am quite sensitive to pretty tableware. Put a plate with a nice pattern in front of me and suddenly I want to organize an elaborate lunch, while normally I’m fine eating straight from the packaging. ZARA HOME apparently understands that, because they now have a summer tableware that looks like it comes straight from a holiday home by the Mediterranean. Think of little boats, laundry hanging in the sun, cheerful colors, and French texts about days by the sea. The only thing missing is a bowl full of pasta, a carafe of cold wine, and someone telling you that you don’t have to go home for a while. Sounds good, right?
As if you are sitting by the Mediterranean
The tableware is designed in collaboration with Diego Nine, a Spanish artist and designer working from Madrid. He creates hand-painted ceramics inspired by the Mediterranean tradition. In other words: lots of color, small drawings, and plates that look like you found them in a cute ceramics shop during a holiday. Only you don’t have to fly to Madrid, Sicily, or the French coast first. Nice too, but a lot more expensive.
The collection consists of earthenware dinner plates, dessert plates, breakfast plates, a large serving platter, and matching glasses. Each item has a different summer illustration. For example, the blue dinner plate features a boat with the text ‘une journée à la mer’, which means: a day at the sea. The oval serving platter is painted with summer clothes hanging outside in the sun and the text ‘les jours d’été’. This is exactly the kind of platter you want to serve burrata, tomatoes, and peaches on, right? Even a simple salad probably looks like you’ve spent at least three hours on it. And it secretly feels a bit like you’re on holiday, especially with the temperatures we have now.

1. The dinner plate
If you want to buy one item, I would go for the dinner plate. This blue one costs €17.99 and has just enough color to make your table nicer without it looking like a children’s birthday party. Combine it with a white tablecloth, glass candlesticks, and red napkins, and you’ll have a table that looks like it came straight from a French holiday home in five minutes.
2. Dessert plates
Want more color? Then there are also dessert plates in red and green for €15.99. The name says dessert plate, but rules are meant to be broken. Put a croissant, some olives, or a piece of lemon cake on it. Everything looks good as long as you present it nicely.
3. Small breakfast plates
The smaller breakfast plates cost €9.99 and are available in yellow and blue, among others. They are perfect for a long morning when you’re slicing fruit, picking up rolls, and pretending you have all the time in the world.
4. Our favorite serving platter
The large serving platter at €45.99 is a bit more expensive, but it’s the kind of item that completes the whole table. This is the real eye-catcher of your summer dining table. Put your salads in here or fill it completely with the most beautiful tiramisu: anything goes.
5. Summer glasses
And then there are the summer glasses for €3.99. They have the same summer illustrations and texts, but cost less than a drink on the terrace. Fill them with limoncello spritz, ice-cold cola, or just water with lemon, and they still look fabulous.

The nice thing about this tableware is that not everything has to match perfectly. On the contrary: especially when you mix red, blue, yellow, and green, it looks like you’ve collected the plates over many different holidays. Place the serving platter in the center, scatter the different plates across the table, and add a few striped napkins. A few lemons in a bowl, wildflowers in a jug, and voilà: your dining table is ready for an Italian summer evening. Even if you’re actually sitting on your balcony in Amstelveen and it could rain at any moment.
Of course, you can buy one plate to make your breakfast a bit nicer, but I already know how this will go. First, you order a dinner plate. Then you realize that the dessert plate looks really nice with it, and before you know it, you also have the serving platter and six glasses in your shopping cart. But hey: if a tableware makes even a sandwich with cheese feel like lunch by the Mediterranean, then that investment is definitely worth it, right? Exactly. I’ll set the table already.
