As they say: the camera adds ten pounds. TV cameras are the absolute worst, but a photo camera isn’t your best friend either. However, there are tricks you can use to bring out your inner goddess in every shot. Take note of my slimming tips and you’ll be the queen of Instagram.
Illusion of length
Looking short can also make you look frumpy, so ask the person taking the photo to take the photo from below your eye level; a low angle shot. From this low perspective it gives the illusion of length and can be attributed to other positive side effects. Have a look-see here.
Rotate your upper body
I remember a press trip to the home of Victoria and David Beckham, where Victoria turned her body in profile, placed one foot slightly forward, pouting her lips and blowing them like a mare just set loose in the meadow after a long winter in the stalls, and then her upper body turned towards the photographer.
That slight twist gives your body a nice silhouette making you appear much slimmer than if you were to stand front facing towards the camera.
Space between arms and waist
If you let your arms sit too close to your body it appears as though you have no waist line. Put one hand naturally on your hip and allow the other hand to hang, holding the handle of your bag. Two hands on your hips can look a little bit farmer-ish, but do offer a glimpse of space between your waist and your arm.
No broad laughs
Laughter is the very best, but it can create wrinkles and often broadens the face, pushing your cheeks upwards. Therefore laugh with your eyes. Alternatively laugh towards the ground, whereby your jawline goes downward. This helps to avoid the ‘broad face’ laugh. Take a look at top models, they all laugh with a downward facing jaw movement. Yes guys, a good snapshot is not easy.
Tongue against your teeth
Another model trick. When giving a little smile, press the tip of your tongue against the inside of your upper row of teeth. This helps to make your cheekbones look more prominent.
Shoulders forward
The typical vogue pose. Put your arms at your side (it is allowed here), twist one leg a little inward and bring your shoulders forward and to the front. It doesn’t get slinkier than this.
Good luck!
