5 reasons you need an exercise ball at the office
+ workouts
Here at the office we’ve got quite a few balls lying around. And by that I mean the ones you use for workouts. We started off with a few pink versions, but I’m pretty sure May hid those somewhere because she found the color atrocious. I obviously didn’t agree so I immediately ordered a new (chicer) bunch. Luckily these were allowed to stay. The brand is Technogym and they are extremely comfortable. Plus they arrived fully blown up so we didn’t have to waste any time pumping up the bad boys. Sitting on them takes a little getting used to, but there are many advantages to using these instead of regular desk chairs.
Advantage number 1
If you’re sitting on a regular desk chair, odds are you roll around in them instead of standing up to go to the printer or to fix your make-up in the mirror (our fashion editor Liesbeth’s daily ritual) for example. Doing this on an exercise-ball is way more difficult, meaning, it’s much easier to just stand up and walk those few small steps.
Advantage number 2
Sitting on an exercise-ball is good for your core (the stability of your torso) since it requires keeping your back straight. This makes it practically impossible to hunch over when you’re sitting. By sitting up straight, you will automatically have a better posture when you stand up straight.
Advantage number 3
You become more aware of how you are sitting and correct yourself anytime you start slouching. And since you’re able to wobble around on a ball, you avoid having a little afternoon dip at the office since you are continuously active.
Advantage number 4
You constantly use your back and core muscles due to the constant wobbling around. Making them stronger.
Advantage number 5
And lastly: take a break from work for a few minutes to do a couple of exercises, maybe bounce it back and forth with a coworker. Perfect for an afternoon slump. Just look at all the exercises I have gifted to you in the photos above.
