the week of a hockey champ
Our health and fitness editor Jet is hibernating for the entire month of November to cook up a storm. Or in her case, a cookbook. And since she doesn’t want us to go off the deep end when it comes to health, she’s found a couple a cool fit girls to guide us through the month. Last week we had food, travel and sports blogger Jenny Alvares, and now we’ve got Dutch hockey champ Ellen Hoog taking over the wheel.
I was asked whether I would be down to keep up a photo diary for Amayzine and so here it goes. Saturday’s and Sunday’s are by far the best days of my week. Throughout the rest of the week I’m always busy training and on Saturday I always have a day off, and on Sunday’s I have hockey competitions. After an intense week of training there is nothing I enjoy doing more than spending a relaxed Saturday in the city with friends. Going out for lunch, doing a bit of shopping and trying out new coffee places in my neighborhood… So last Friday I had my camera ready to be tagged along for the rest of the weekend. Saturday might not have been my most thrilling Saturday because it was filled with a trip to the physio, writing short articles for Amayzine and having dinner by myself because my friends were all out of the city or had other appointments.
And then there was Sunday: match day.
And it would be a special match because I was playing against two of my team mates from the Dutch national women’s hockey team. Fierce but friendly competition so I made sure to start my day off nice and easy with a healthy breakfast.
Complete and utter focus during the game!
The thing I always find so crazy is that I spend at least half of my week training with the other girls from the Dutch national team and on Sunday’s I often have to compete against them. The end score this past Sunday was 1-1 so luckily all us girls could have a good laugh afterwards.
As soon as I was back home in Amsterdam I dropped by my favorite vitamin store for a shake. I have two intense trainings planned this week so taking good care of myself has the utmost priority.
Sunday evening I had dinner with my boyfriend and a close friend at a Japanese restaurant. I was extremely exhausted but Japanese food really knows how to works its magic. Too good.
My favorite dish is always the salmon sashimi. It’s so fresh!
