TRAVELING ALONE FOR BEGINNERS

You can hardly call it news anymore but for those of you who are visiting Amayzine.com for the first time (what took you so long, but you’re a regular from now on, right?) I will repeat the fact that one of my hobbies is going on vacation by myself. Not that I go every week (I wish) just often enough to be able to tell you something about it.

If it’s your first time it can be a little scary especially if you think it involves a backpack and dark dangerous jungles many time zones away from home. But it doesn’t have to be like that. Traveling alone doesn’t have to be a great adventure, it’s okay if you stay closer to home. It’s all quite nerve-racking on it’s own so taking your first solo trip in Europe might be perfect for that comfortable first step. True to my word I’ll give you a view options.

Interrailing

Many have gone before you and I always hear great feedback. I have personally never done this but who knows, maybe someday. You buy an Interrail pass and that’s about all you have to do. Besides drawing up a traveling route that is. You meet loads of people; and the train system in Europe is smooth, punctual and very safe. Child’s play, so go.

Roadtrip

Rent of buy a car and navigate yourself over the continent. Pass through Belgium, the north of France, race through the streets of Paris, catch some sun in the south of France and them move down to Spain or Italy or wherever. There’s one thing you need to consider; if your car happens to break down you need to know what to do. So follow a crash course ‘repairing cars for Dummies’ (ha-ha) or make sure you have a subscription to an international road-help organization with a phone number you can call day and night. There are many advantages to traveling by car; you’re not dependent on trains and you can go wherever you want.

Retreat

You can make it even easier by booking a stay at a yoga-retreat of a detox camp on Ibiza or some other warm island. Let yourself be pampered for a week or two, minimizing your own efforts to moving from bed to bed and beach to pool. Jet went to Thailand a year and a half ago to stay at such a retreat, alone, she experienced it as one of the most relaxing vacations ever.

Rent a house

Find a suitable location through AirBNB and chill for a week or for a long weekend. I know that Yara Michels of Chapter Friday recently did this. She just took off on her own for a long weekend on Ibizia. Why don’t you? You might be on your own but you can take it easy and there’s no complicated planning involved or the worry of finding a place to sleep. And who knows maybe after this you’ll be ready for that jungle trip through Thailand.

Finally

A while ago I wrote a piece about how to make arrangements when traveling alone. You can read that here. Have fun guys!
