5 lessons in style you can learn from
Julia Restoin Roitfeld
When you’re mother is Carine Roitfeld, it’s against the law to walk down the street looking like a slob. Fortunately, daughter Julia knows just how to keep the family’s value of style high and just like her mother, there are plenty of things we can learn from Restoin Roitfeld Junior. There is a reason she was the face for H&M’s Conscious Collection.
1. Show some skin
Julia likes to show off her fit French physique with Russian roots. And when you’ve got it, flaunt it. Preferably by having a bit of skin showing in an asymmetrical dress. Or a crop-top that doesn’t have the straightest trim or a shirt with sleeves that shows off your arms.
2. Sex and sexy
Sex and sexy are two things Carine definitely taught her daughter to do. Although, whereas Carine would go for a leopard print, Julia will always opt for sheer. The combination of half covered, half see-through is what she loves. It keeps the look exciting and sexy and far from trashy.
3. The leather skirt
Mom might go for a knee-length leather skirt, Julie prefers them a lot shorter; thigh high short. Julia herself is quite short (it’s the French in her), but this optically gives her more height.
4. Show that bra
Julia has been on trend for years wearing her inner wear as outerwear. A see-through (see point number 2) blouse with a cool bra underneath, a corset as a top, you name it, Julia wore it. And has been, for a long time.
5. The middle part
Here’s a fun little anecdote for a Tuesday afternoon. Estelle Cruijff (a famous Dutch socialite who was once married to a football player) once went to a hair dresser in Chelsea where her then-husband used to play football. That’s where she spoke the legendary words: “I want my hair a bit shorter and the divorce in the middle.” Why is this funny? Well, the literal translation of the Dutch word for a middle part is ‘divorce’.
Just like Estelle, Julia rocks the middle part. It’s classic and feminine with a touch of Parisienne.
