9 LIFE LESSONS FROM  DOWNTON ABBEY

I was infatuated. Downton Abbey. I would even abruptly end phone calls for it, was hoping for a fever to pull through so I could cancel on dinner plans and I was all for the idea of my girls running around in their PJ’s all day on a Sunday. I did everything, everything, to watch ‘just one’ more episode of Downton Abbey.

My addiction was taking on some drastic measures (if you want to know how to quit binge watching shows, check this out). My girls would prance around the room dancing while I was watching (thank god Downton doesn’t have too many steamy sex- and violence scenes) and whenever I met new people, I would compare them to Downton-characters. She’s definitely a Lady Mary type and she’s definitely Anna Bates and if I had my hair done up in a certain way, I could pass as Mrs. Crawley’s daughter.

But now I’ve finished all of Downton and am suffering from a severe case of separation anxiety. All that’s left to do is wait for season 7 and as Lady Crawley would say: “You’re a woman with a brain and reasonable ability, so stop whining and find yourself something to do.”

In the meantime I’ll find comfort in all her brilliant quotes, because no matter what situation you’re in, they’ll always be applicable.

1. “Principles are like prayers. Noble ofcourse, but awkward at a party.”

2. – “You want me to lie?”

– “Lie is such an unmusical word.”

3. “What’s a weekend?”

4. “You know me… Never complain. Never explain.”

5.   – “How you hate to be wrong.”

–  “I wouldn’t know… I’m not familiar with the sensation.”

6. “I’m a woman. I can be as contrary as I like.”

7. “You are flattering me… And that’s exactly the way it should be.”

8. – “I’ll take that as a compliment.”

– “Then I must have said it wrong.”
