Do something extra nice for your parents

because you probably forget to more often than not

For years you walked around the house behaving like a stuck up kid giving your parents attitude; whining, bitching, yelling. Oh man, the things you made your parents tolerate. Poor folks. Fact: it’s all a part of being a teenager, but still… When you think of everything your parents had to put up with, you can’t help but feel a little sorry for them.

As soon as you leave the nest and get all of your ducks in a row, you’ll probably realize that for 80% of your adolescence, you were a real asshole. It’s time to make amends.

Buy flowers

It really can be as simple as buying a fresh bouquet of flowers. Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure I’ve never given my dad any flowers, but it’s never to late to start. Fact is, everyone loves flowers so you can’t go wrong there.

Bring back souvenirs

On my recent trip to Venice, which happens to be one of my dad’s favorite cities, we were walking around a museum (can’t remember the name because visiting museums to look at old paintings is not my cup of tea) and I knew my dad would love everything they had on display. He has a thing for old paintings from the middle ages, so I dropped by the gift shop and bought him a book that contained photos of practically the entire collection. He was ecstatic when I gave it to him – as was I.

Go on a city trip

Take your parents on a weekend getaway. When was the last time you went on a vacation with just your parents? My point exactly. It’s time to go out and do something fun together and this time round, you’re old enough to enjoy a glass of wine, which makes everything more fun.

Organize a dinner

You don’t have to invite the whole neighborhood; just keep it low key with a small group of friends. Just for fun. Or just for the family. Just make sure your parents can sit back and relax like you did when you were still a teen and your lazy ass never lent them a hand.
