NAPPING? YOU DO IT LIKE THIS
On average, we should sleep seven hours a night. Sometimes I find it a miracle that I'm still standing because since I have kids (and that's about seven years), I can no longer manage to scrape together those seven hours. Let alone uninterrupted. There's always someone crying, singing, throwing up, or sleepwalking. It doesn't matter, I find it really cozy, but oh how I long to not be tired anymore.
Because I can write off those seven hours of uninterrupted sleep, I looked for a solution. And I found it on huffingtonpost.com and it's called; the afternoon nap.
Here are the rules and I'm going to tell you; this afternoon I'm going to apply them all.
Timing is everything
Unlike the power nap, the ideal time for the afternoon nap is around three o'clock. Before lunch, you're not tired enough, and if you sleep later in the afternoon, you might not be able to sleep at night. So...
Keep it short
Don't think; I'll sleep as long as my body deems necessary. That will mess everything up. Don't do it. 20 to 30 minutes is enough.
Anywhere but in bed
If you lie down in bed, your body thinks; “Hey, this is nice. I'm tuning out for seven hours.” That's not a good idea. Lie down somewhere comfortable, but not too comfortable. Your couch is perfect. But Beau van Erven Dorens regularly slept under the quietest desk in the corner during our Boulevard time.
Drink coffee
Yes, you find this very strange, right? Because coffee keeps you awake and all. But the substance that keeps you awake only works after twenty to thirty minutes. And that's exactly the moment you need to wake up again. A warm cup of coffee before your nap ensures that you fall asleep nicely (because you have a warm drink in your belly) and wake up refreshed.
Don't toss and turn
Do you know that? When you start to panic and toss and turn because you can't sleep. I have that very often. It doesn't matter. Just lying down also gives you rest. They say.
Sleep masks
The Huffingtonpost comes with another type of sleeping bag that you can pull over your head to isolate yourself from the world. I find that a bit morbid. A sleep mask or two slices of cucumber. They immediately tackle those bags under your eyes.
Good night...
