Floor Kleyne is a creative jack-of-all-trades. She is a hairstylist, creative team member at Salon B, and creative educator at B academy. She collaborates on fashion and beauty shoots for leading magazines both domestically and internationally and works backstage at fashion weeks in Paris for brands like Givenchy, Guy Laroche, and Felipe Oliveira Baptista. Recently, she provided me with some braiding instructions, the trend of this summer, but she also regularly styles the hair of celebrities like Victoria Koblenko, Anna Drijver, and Krystl. So we are very happy that she is updating us on the hairstyles of this summer and other hair talk.

Morning ritual

“I am quite loyal to my hair care ritual because it is so long that it needs a lot of TLC. I wash my hair about 2x a week with The Insiders Walk on the beach shampoo for an undone look and then use Bumble & Bumble Deeep, a protein mask that strengthens my locks. After washing, I apply The Insiders Walk on the beach conditioner & prep to detangle and hydrate it, and finally Nioxin Diaboost Thickening Treatment on my scalp to stimulate the thickness of each existing hair.”

5 minutes make-up

“I have quite a difficult skin, so I often spend the most time on that. First of all, I use Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat for a highlight, then I cover imperfections with MAC Skin corrector concealer. I dream of “Cara eyebrows,” so I brush them up as much as possible, fill them in with Anastacia Brow Wiz and set them with Mac Brow Set gel in the color Beguile.”

Summer trends

“I looove trends. Here are my 3 favorites:

  1. Ethnic influences: It can be a bit tribal, so think of braids, messy cornrows, and even dreads. DIY by giving your hair a lot of texture with a dry shampoo (Drynamic by Sebastian) and then twisting 2 strands together. Let the bottom hang loose.
  2. Undone: perfectly imperfect. Blow-dry your hair in strands, twisting them around your finger while drying and rubbing with your thumb. Afterwards, give your hair extra body with a dust (The Insiders Teaser Styling Dust).
  3. Artistic/fun: For the daredevil: Think of a good cut with a creative edge. A long bob has been THE length for a few seasons now, but now it can be very ragged, almost as if you cut it yourself. Ask your hairdresser for a freehand dry cutting session.

Beach look

The beach look is of course also a trend this summer. While many people enjoy a trip abroad, many also stay in the Netherlands. You can achieve it without having to dive into a salty sea. “Preparation is everything, so start with a prep and possibly an extra stiffener. Blow-dry your hair, creating as much volume as possible by making strands and rubbing. Ideally: once your hair is dry, make about 5 loose braids in your hair. Fix the braids in your hair by going over the braid with your straightener in a “tapping” motion. Now take the braids out of your hair and shake it loose.”

Signature look

“It’s definitely the way I wear my hair; the better the texture, the better I feel. It’s a mix of boho, rock n roll, and grunge, which is naturally quite present in my hair. I enhance it by rolling my hair completely up before sleeping and securing it on top of my head. In the morning, depending on my mood, I style with Wella Ocean Spritz and The Insiders Woodstock Wax Spray.

Best purchase

“That’s very easy: the “birth” of our own product line Undone by The Insiders. The thought of a range of products specifically made for creating that Brigitte Bardot-ish hair that my colleagues and I love so much has been tantalizing us for years, and now it’s finally here. Proud!”

“Everyone deserves hair that is both sexy (because when you feel sexy, you can take on the world), creative (that can also be a beautiful natural look, but always achieved through creativity), and individual (I love this part: what makes someone beautiful and unique and how can I enhance that?). In the case of someone like Anna Drijver, I have the jackpot; because incredibly sexy, a beautiful mane of curls that invites creativity and an open mind.”

Never leave home without

Very simple: an elastic band and a few bobby pins. Even if you styled your hair wonderfully in the morning, sometimes there’s no escaping it and it has to go up or out of your face. Not a problem at all: many people are masters at creating “blind” updos without even knowing it. If your cut is good, these quick variations often result in the best looks.”

Million Dollar Tip

“Don’t settle for mediocre advice at the hairdresser. With “How do you want your hair cut?”, you’ll never get the hair you’ve always wanted. As a hairstylist, you can create the most beautiful hair when you get to know someone. My colleagues at Salon B and I dare to ask questions that you might not necessarily expect during a visit to the hairdresser. But with special questions, you get special answers, resulting in not only more beautiful hair but also the most unique experiences.”
