The Biggest Trends of 2014

These last days of the year are actually a big wrap-up here at Amayzine HQ. We have summarized our favorites watching YouTube videos , the biggest scandals mentioned and the most talked-about dresses have passed by once again. But looking back on 2014 cannot happen without mentioning the biggest trends of this year. Because we have seen quite a few fads come, go, and fail, but these were undeniably the trends of trends of 2014.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
In recent years, we had already seen quite a few internet trends: planking, the Harlem shake, and more of that nonsense. But then suddenly there was the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Who would have dared to dream that this incredibly awkward challenge would capture the world like we had never seen before. Everyone got wet. From Bill Gates and Oprah to Donatella Versace and May-Britt Mobach. And not to forget your neighbor, your butcher, and colleagues. The disease ALS had never received so much attention and millions in financial support.

Happy
Actually, this song was not intended as a single at all, but the Dutch 3FM DJs found Happy such a fun track on the Despicable Me 2-soundtrack that they decided to just play the song and thus quickly created a hit. Pharrell knew how to handle this success and released the world's first 24-hour music video in which we saw people from all over the world dancing to the cheerful song for a whole day. The song became a virus and triggered a true global movement of happiness . Happy broke all records, Pharrell cried tears of joy, everyone was …..

Dubsmash
We experienced a short but extraordinarily intense hype with the Dubsmash app. The idea was dead simple. Actually, you don't need an app for this joke at all (right, Fred van Leer?). Nevertheless, the Netherlands was captivated and we all started dubsmashing en masse. Among others, Marco Borsato, Carice van Houten, and Nicolette van Dam made themselves immortal, and you haven't even seen those from the Amayzine editors yet. But that will remain so.
