THE MET GALA – THE DIRT

Our lovely Liesbeth went through all the fashion ins and outs with us yesterday in detail, but what is at least just as exciting is the gossip and chatter about the evening when everyone who has earned their stripes in the fashion, music, and film business comes together.

• This resulted in a photo of a broad-smiling (whether or not looking like farmers with toothache) Beyoncé and Rihanna. When this snapshot was thrown onto the internet, Twitter pretty much exploded, because these pop divas almost never pose together. Although RiRi is quite close with Jay Z, rumors have been circulating for years that she and Bey are anything but friends. What makes this image even more impressive are the contrasting black/white creations they are wearing – Rihanna in Stella McCartney and Beyoncé in Givenchy – as if they knew this would become the new wallpaper for an entire generation.
• The photo that was missed even more because of this was one with Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian. In theory, these divas are very closely connected. Kanye is after all Jay Z and Bey's best buddy, and both power couples were fully present at the fashion party. The gentlemen were more than happy to be photographed together, but the ladies are nowhere to be found in any shot. We certainly don't want to add fuel to the fire, but it's clear to us that queen Bey has not yet fully embraced the selfie-happy Kim in her heart.
• Ladies who did want to share with the world that they are (again) completely BFFs were Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift. Last year, there was said to have been a significant fight between the singers because Taylor disapproved of Selena going back to that ... of a Justin Bieber for the umpteenth time. The media assumed they had broken up, but at the Met Gala, they showed that their friendship is once again in full bloom by posting a semi-romantic video on Instagram in which they twirl together in their couture dresses through the streets of New York.
• Then there were the British bad girls Lily Allen and Cara Delevingne who were clearly having a great time at the posh event. Lily also wanted to take a photo with all her heroes and managed to snag a selfie with Kanye West, of whom she is an extraordinarily big fan. The British singer even named her latest album Sheezus after Kanye's record. Yeezus.
• Who also certainly did not escape attention was Hollywood hunk Bradley Cooper. We still call him a hunk, but the actor has visibly been indulging in food lately and has also let his beard grow, making it a bit more of a search for the hunk he once was. Let's hope it has something to do with a future film role.
• Finally, let's mention the types who shone in their absence. In our eyes, that was certainly Madonna, who claimed she didn't come because her extremely revealing outfit didn't pass the inspection of hostess Anna Wintour. And our own Doutzen Kroes, who let this year pass her by and was comfortably lying on the couch pregnant.
