GENERATION GLAMOUR COMES TOGETHER AT THE AMSTEL HOTEL

In the United States and England, the Glamour Awards have been presented for years, but in the Netherlands, the event had never been pulled out of the closet. Until last night, because for the very first time, the Glamour Women of the Year Awards were presented in the Amsterdam Amstel Hotel. And that was quite a spectacle.

Together with Josselin, I put on a Glamour-proof suit as the rain pours down from the sky. HOW are we ever going to arrive at that party dry and somewhat presentable? I also happen to be wearing a kind of top with fringes down to the ground and I can tell you, that is damn awkward on a bike. The evening starts with a hefty dose of polder glamour, but when we (dry!) survive the bike ride, (almost) all my fringes are still where they should be, and we see the red carpet strewn with celebrities and then walk into the royal Amstel Hotel, we know, forget the polder, tonight is Glamour.

It was about the awards (and yes okay about the Moët-champagne of course, pop) and they were awarded in various categories. After the opening speech by editor-in-chief Sanne Groot Koerkamp, Halina Reijn she took over the microphone and started the evening. The big prize was for Doutzen Kroes, who was present with her husband Sunnery James. She can now call herself Woman of the Year because “she radiates international allure, ambition, and lust for life, just like Glamour,” according to Sanne Groot Koerkamp.

In the Business category, Cynthia Schultz from Miss Lipgloss was awarded a prize, Rens Kroes (dressed in a beautiful dress by Edwin Oudshoorn) won in Food & Health, Sanne Vogel took home the win in the Creative category, Willa Stoutenbeek won in Better World, and our friend Maartje Verhoef won of course, of course in the Fashion category. She was dressed in an incredibly cool dress by Marc Jacobs, and styled by Glamour's brand new Fashion Director Saskia van Langevelde.

After the official part, everyone rushes to the Moët & Chandon bar, on the terrace for a cigarette and to the photo booth. During the afterparty, Pixie Geldof and British fashion designer Henry Holland are behind the turntables, and that is really quite cool. The fries being handed out are already gone within two meters, so anyone who thinks that no one eats at fashion parties, think again. I twirl and sway around with my fringes and fries, high five with friends and acquaintances, and decide, completely against my reputation, to leave the venue around midnight and move myself to bed. I am that wise. Thank you Glamour for an amazing party, I am already looking forward to next year.
