Here in Amsterdam, salad bars seem to be popping up everywhere, but that doesn't mean they are all equally good. I find it important that everything is super fresh, preferably organic, no thick fatty dressings, no ready-made croutons, it should be filling and nutritious, not just lettuce, tomato, cucumber. Do you hear that? I'm quite critical, you know.
I have written before that I am a fan of SLA, but here are six more places in Amsterdam where I think you can eat incredibly good salads.
Fulfilled
This is a small deli with a few seating spots and a bench on Jan Pieter Heijestraat where you can watch passersby for hours. There are three different salads. For example, with quinoa, red bell pepper, marinated zucchini, pear, dried cranberries, pecans, and fresh spinach.

Edel
You can sit beautifully by the water. The menu has a lot of sandwiches and actually only one salad. That is a salad from the chef. So you don't know what you're getting, but it's always a hit. Super fresh vegetables from the season.

Sane Food
Just opened in Amsterdam, but this place has been hip for a long time in New York, London, Paris, and Sydney. There is a choice of standard salads like Caesar, Waldorf, and Niçoise, but you can also create your own and the choice is huge. Everything is prepared fresh while you wait.
Haarlemmerdijk 136
Mon-Sat 10:30- 18:30
Fennel
This is my favorite in the city. The salads are super healthy, very filling, and you don't have to worry about gaining even a gram. The menu has nice combinations. Red lentils with piri piri spices, leeks, cauliflower, raisins, and cashews are to die for.
They also have delicious freshly squeezed juices or quinoa bread with homemade hummus.
Albert Cuypstraat 22
Open daily from 11:00 to 21:00
Vinies Deli
A small shop on Haarlemmerstraat and Nieuwezijds Kolk. They use a lot of recipes from Ottolenghi. And if anyone cooks healthily, it's him. Lots of vegetables and power food. Also very tasty are the homemade energy bars with chia and goji berries for on the go.
Haarlemmerstraat 46
Nieuwezijds Kolk 33
Open every day from 7:30 to 18:00
From the kitchen
The name says it all. Everything on the menu is homemade. Out of the Kitchen strives for sustainability. Or, as sustainable as possible. For example, the fish is sustainably caught or farmed and always ‘in season’. The meat is at least free-range and the vegetables are organic where possible. My favorite is the spelt salad. You can also take it away if you want.
