WOMEN AND MEN AND THEIR CLOTHING CHOICE

“Dutch women influence men's clothing choices” headlines nu.nl this week. A survey among 1050 respondents shows that “as many as 62%” of men are willing to adjust their clothing style to the wishes of the woman, and 70% of men dress at the last minute if their partner is not satisfied with the man's looks. Interesting.

Let's start with the fact that the studies presented by nu.nl never really have any scientific basis. It's fun and nice and a bit sensational, but don't think that it is really like that now. Moreover, this research was conducted by a discount code site, and studies conducted in-house by a commercial party usually have a very different goal: to sell something.

That said, it is of course always nice to look at the outcomes. As mentioned, 70% of men would adjust their clothing for the woman, compared to 50% of women. This means that women are less concerned about the criticisms from their male partner, which – in my feminist brain – is good news.

But anyway, those men, ladies, we have much more influence than we thought! I have inquired a bit and most men here in my surroundings all say that if their partner insists that something else needs to be worn, he will indeed wear something else. And vice versa, by the way, the women do it too. My little survey (which in terms of scientific basis will really not differ much from that ‘real’ one) shows that the ratios are about 50% to 50%.

Anyway, long story short, women, let your voice be heard if your man shows up in a blocked shirt with Snoopy print And men, you can also say something. Sometimes. A little. Not too loud. And only if no one is listening.
