Awaken that wanderlust
– The nicest cities for a city trip –
Now Liesbeth immerses us, and you, every week in the most beautiful stays in the nicest places on earth, that travel urge is of course greatly stimulated. So yes, I was in Berlin last week and this morning the button was pressed to also do a weekend in Valencia before we leave for South Africa in October Of course, all under the guise of world domination.
I also made the nicest trips for work for a while and I am of course trying to hold on to that rhythm. It was really work, because my boyfriend is a photographer, I wrote the articles and so we made very nice and enjoyable travel productions. To all corners (and outposts), but because of that we have seen very nice and original places. My favorite list for inspiration, in case you are also looking for something nice besides the well-trodden favorites like Paris, New York and Barcelona of course.
1. Copenhagen
My favorite. I could really live there and that's why I go there every year. A very clean city, only hip and well-dressed people and the most lovely shops and restaurants. Favorite neighborhoods? Actually, the center is already nice enough (think Filippa K, think Modström), but Vesterbro (the Meatpacking District of Copenhagen) and Frederiksberg are also doing very well. Only love for Copenhagen.
2. Stockholm
Actually, I could copy and paste the text from above, I just have to replace all that lovely with cool. Also for that reason I go there every year. Stockholm is super hip. It is full of cool hipsters with cool fixies (bikes), the shops are very raw, but very cool and it's where you celebrate your creativity. The Södermalm district is where you need to be, especially SoFo.
3. Berlin
I will refer you to this post. 7 reasons why you should be there. A very nice and enjoyable city where you can basically just roll in with the car.
4. Hamburg
For me, Hamburg was a huge surprise. It is a German city, and I don't want to say that German cities are stupid by default, but I wouldn't call them hip either. Well, Hamburg is doing very well in that last category. All nice neighborhoods with lovely little shops that offer much more inspiration and shopping opportunities than the main street itself. There are plenty of parks to lounge in a bit and recover from the night before, because you'll also encounter plenty of cocktail bars.
5. Madrid
After spending my entire youth on vacation in Spain and my sister still hanging out there, I thought I knew Spain a bit. Okay, with Madrid a new world opened up. Everything there is so grand and so royal. Very chic, insane buildings that you don't even have to enter for the necessary royal looks, and the terraces are highly recommended. With every drink you order, you get a tapas and hop you go along all those different terraces, then you've actually gathered your entire dinner together. So yes, Madrid. Go for it.
