5 things people with tattoos want to tell you

We have a few tattoo-free people here in the editorial office. In fact, people without tattoos are in the majority. In the group of 18-31, 31% of people are tattooed. Yet, for many people, it's still a thing. There are stores where you have to cover your tattoos, and for many older people, people with tattoos are wild and party-loving. Therefore, for all these tattoo-averse individuals, six things that people with a tattoo want to say to you.

It's not a conversation topic

I am incredibly guilty of this myself. We had a colleague who had the head of his beloved tattooed on his forearm. After six weeks of dating. We talked about it at least once a week during lunch. We would ask him what he would think if it ever ended. And how he saw himself in the nursing home with such an enormous drawing on his arm. That was actually very rude of us. It's someone's own choice. You don't have to justify to him the fact that you don't have one.

Don't immediately ask about the meaning

Often, a long period precedes someone getting a tattoo. Something very special may have happened, but often something sad is the reason to anchor a symbol or a phrase on your skin. I would wait until you know the person a little better to ask what the story behind the tattoo is. The fact that it is visible does not mean you can start talking about it at any moment.

Not every tattoo is done in a wild night

I always find it amusing when I read that Miss Montreal and Johnny de Mol got a tattoo together in a cheerful mood. Or Cara and Jourdan. Almost jealous that you can live so much in the moment and not constantly weigh whether this image will fit you for your whole life.

People with a tattoo are not antisocial

My grandmother always thought that. Those were ‘people of apparent descent’, but you really can't say that anymore. I would rather say that creative people have a tattoo. Go watch a show backstage. You really feel like a pale boring person among all the hair and makeup artists.

Yes, they are also beautiful when we get old

Another topic. “But when you're old, you'll have such a yellowed plate on your arm?” So what, who cares. Then you just give that tattoo a touch-up? And maybe yellowed tattoos will be incredibly in fashion.

By the way, I don't have any tattoos myself, in case you were curious about that.
