7 reasons why you should also go to Cinderella
“I don't think I've ever been this nervous in my life and I can feel a bit of spit coming up now.” I'm on my way with my two youngest girls towards Rotterdam. For a few days now, there's been talk about what to wear because we're going to the premiere of Cinderella and the dress code is ‘princess’. For once, the middle girl gets to wear her ‘heels’ (the ugliest dress-up shoes you've ever seen) outside and she's wearing the over-the-top yellow princess dress she got from Fiona Hering.
In Rotterdam, we see sales director Daan with daughter Moya, who also had a little ‘costume crisis’ because she had outgrown her Frozen dress. Just in time, I rushed to the theater on the Maaskade and saw Cinderella. A film you must see too. Kids or no kids. And here's why.

Those costumes, those costumes, those costumes
The English costume designer Sandy Powell, you know, the woman with ten Oscar nominations and three actual Oscars for Shakespeare in Love, The Aviator, and The Young Victoria, gave a substantive layering to the costumes. She didn't want Cinderella in rags but wanted a dress that starts off very beautiful and gradually becomes dirty and worn.

It's that Cate Blanchett is such a superior bitch as the stepmother, but she's stunning. And well-dressed. Think hats that barely fit through double doors and skirts with a hefty train. Mark my words, that's going to be the thing. Goodbye to Kim's butt but a warm welcome for the long, voluptuous skirts with sewn-in butt parts.
Because you're grateful again that we no longer wear corsets
With her ball gown, the corset was so tight that Lily had to keep stopping during the dance scene with the prince at the ball to catch her breath. Take a breath, dance, stop, loosen the corset, breathe, and go again.
She couldn't even eat with the corset on because the food wouldn't digest and she kept burping in the prince's face. Not so very charming. Lily spent her days on a soup diet, the only food that went down...
The most beautiful slipper
The costume designer wanted a truly sexy slipper, with a hefty heel. She made them together with Swarovski and gave it such a shape and heel that it will be impossible for toy manufacturers to replicate this for young girls. Although something tells me my girls will find a way to manage in them.
Because Annie and Lily are such a good pair
Just look at the press photos. Annie Leibovitz photographed Lily in her blue dress. It doesn't get much prettier than this.

What's more fun than marrying a prince? Playing a princess and then traveling the world in Prada, Erdem, Elie Saab, Mary Katranzou, and of course a lot of Dior, waving to the people.
