7 vintage beauty secrets
– hollywood stars reveal –
When you think of Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, you think glamour and class. Diving into the beauty secrets of these leading ladies you can be sure to find out some tips for perfect radiant skin, always immaculate make-up and an “always-superb look.* Some are a little on the odd side, but hey, if they work…
Marilyn Monroe was well built and renowned for the curves of her figure being in exactly all the right places. It must be told she had to thank a special morning ritual for this desired effect. “ Before taking my morning shower, I always start the day with a glass of warm milk. When the milk is warm enough I break two eggs into the glass and mix it with a fork. I drink this while stuffing myself into a dress.”
If someone is known for her eye shadow and enormous wing, it’s Elizabeth Taylor. The film ‘ Cleopatra” became her signature look. That Elizabeth was a real Cleopatra herself was made clear by her taking charge of her own beauty routine. She preferred to cut her own hair and do her own make-up. Furthermore she said, “ You can use hefty eye make-up but without a beauty sleep you’ll still look like hell. So put in a good night’s sleep.”
Sophia Loren may just about have the most impeccable skin of all the ladies mentioned. Not because of applying loads of creams but because she frequently took a bath filled with pure olive oil. She thought her environment and water dehydrated her skin and olive oil helped to keep it soft and flexible. Yep, when we look at photos of Sophia it seems she’s proven us right.
Her strong eyebrows enhanced Audrey’s doll-eyes, bringing out the best of her eyes. But good mascara also plays an important part. To be sure every lash was separated from the rest, her make-up artist used a safety pin. Brining each lash into the perfect position. If you can try this at home? I doubt it.
Since the hands are the first to betray your age; Grace Kelly was continuously applying hand lotion.
We can’t imagine this but in the thirties thin eyebrows was the way to go. To take things a step further, it was preferable to have none at all; thin eyebrows were a gift by Mother Nature. At around the same period the eyebrow pencil was introduced and by Marlene it was received with open arms. She shaved her thin eyebrows in order to set a perfect line. Everything for perfection.
* The always-superb look is not the same now as it was then when considering thin or non-existent eyebrows.
We know that feeling good is looking good. And so did Ingrid Bergman. Off the movie sets you never saw her with makeup on her face, she had her genes to thank for her good looks. Her perception of beauty had everything to do with “inner wellness”. She didn’t reserve much time fort his, it was in the little things. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator or just going for long walks.
