Be kind to yourself, me-time, Jetty-time, that was the past week. And that's harder than you think, everyone can relate to that. Try putting your phone away for half a day, can't do it, bet? “Use your no muscle more often, Jet,” my mother says sometimes. You can probably relate to that too. Open a book or spend your entire Sunday just tidying up at home. Without a screen and phone, okay? You definitely do that too little. We all have a lot to do, I know. But you also have complete control over doing something about it and making your mind a bit calmer. What helps me is: exercising, cooking in the kitchen, discovering new restaurants, and going to the spa for a massage. And I did all that.
#Tip from Jet
Let me take you back to the Easter weekend. The table at brunch was filled with exactly what I had hoped for. Salmon, scrambled eggs, grapefruit, and Easter bread. My mother is the best cook there is, and I love to stand next to her to help and sneak a peek. Cooking is relaxing.
I opened the nuts and seeds drawer (yes, it exists) and took a handful from each bag and jar. I mixed that in a bowl with a tiny drizzle of olive oil. Then you take a frying pan and let it get really hot. Roast the nuts and seeds until light brown and store them in a container. Once cooled, you can put the lid on. Ready to go, just for your yogurt or oatmeal, but also in salads. It's super nutritious, has a nice crunch, and I really like the roasted flavor.
Salad du Venkel
At my favorite salad bar Venkel around the corner, the spring menu has started. You understand, I was the first one at the door. After exercising, I sat outside with my friend Madieke on the bench in front of the place, both of us with spring vibes on our laps. A very nice light salad that you can easily make at home.
You will need:
chickpeas
peas
radish
avocado
dried apricot
Parmesan cheese
Very simple: put all the ingredients in a large bowl. You know the drill, rinse the chickpeas after they come out of the can, briefly boil the peas until they are soft (but still crunchy!), slice the radishes, cut the avocado into small pieces, and cut the dried apricot into strips. Grate the cheese over it. For dressing, you can use a bit of olive oil with lemon, for example.
New In Town
Juice Brothers, I had been waiting for this for a while. You might think that all juice bars look alike, but as a juice expert, I am quite critical.
What should a good smoothie juice bar meet? 1. Friendly staff (seriously important) who also have a bit of knowledge about nutrition and what it does to you and so on. 2. Unique combinations and superfoods or spices that you don't have lying around in your own kitchen cupboard. 3. Fun names for the smoothie (I like that). 4. A nice spot where you can also drink your juice. 5. Shots, ginger, wheatgrass, and lots of greens. 6. Fresh take-away juices that you can grab quickly if you're in a hurry.
Well, I think the Juice Brothers meet all of that. Go there, I would say.
Completely away
That was me yesterday. I threw my phone in a locker, put on a thick white bathrobe, washed off my makeup, put my hair in a bun, and walked to the basement of the Conservatory. That was the best decision of the week.
I got a massage and went to the sauna twice. I saw a few magazines lying around (a few Linda’s from last year, but that didn't matter) and I spent hours lounging and doing nothing. Without even thinking about my phone or what the next day would bring. Really people, treat yourself to a day like that. It's a bit of an expense, I know, but you deserve it. I'm sure of that.
