Blonde hair from the kitchen cabinets

The summer consists of hours of wading, sitting on terraces and visits to the beach and that doesn't sound like there's much time left to visit a salon for a new hair color. It’s not necessary either, because there are enough items in the kitchen cabinets to create some highlights yourself.

Tea time

To lighten your hair color a few shades, tea is quite a nice ingredient. Especially chamomile, black, and rooibos tea can help bring out the blondy in you. Chamomile tea is good because it already has a golden glow by itself. It depends on the length of your hair how many tea bags you need, but for long hair, you’re looking at about five. You hang them in the water and wait until the tea is well brewed. Then let it cool, dip your hair in it, and after about five minutes, let it dry in the sun. The sun will activate the chamomile with its heat, giving a lighter effect.

Beer

If you’re sitting on that terrace anyway. Beer is not only good for a bit more volume in the hair; it also lightens the hair a bit and gives shine.

Honey and lemon

Lemon will probably not surprise you, because everyone used to do that all day long while sunbathing for hours. It’s not the healthiest for the hair, as it dries it out a lot, but it does give results. You can mix it a bit with honey, which is actually good for the hair. Honey contains a bit of hydrogen peroxide. Now it is a bit sticky to apply to your hair, so mix it a bit with warm water or vinegar, and yes, those few drops of lemon.

Cinnamon

Dark hair quickly becomes very dry when exposed to too many lighteners, even if it’s just the sun. The result is not the Gisele Bundchen look but the salt and pepper effect. Cinnamon works very well as a solution. It subtly lightens the hair from dark to light without turning it orange. It’s best to make a mask with cinnamon and water, work it into your hair, and sleep with it overnight. Cinnamon is actually not harmful at all, so if you’re not blonde enough after one night, just repeat it once more.
