GIGI, WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?
Together with Kendall she is the absolute it-model of the moment. Carried on hands in the fashion world and far beyond, they are the Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford of our time. Especially Gigi Hadid's popularity seems limitless, because besides her captivating beauty, she also comes across as wonderfully sympathetic. Her down-to-earth attitude combined with her imaginative background* works enchantingly. Gigi does everything right. At least...
The blonde walked in the Paris Fashion Week show of Sonia Rykiel on Monday and paraded around in a floor-length fur coat. Now this is not such a surprise, during Milan Fashion Week it became painfully clear that fur is back in fashion and the model herself has no influence on this. But then the proud Gigi posted a picture of herself and the fur coat – which is estimated to have cost the lives of about 30 chinchillas – accompanied by the text: “It was hard not to take this look home.”
And then you can guess, that didn't sit well. The negative reactions on Gigi's Instagram are still pouring in rapidly and the #unfollowgigihadid was created. Her 2.2 million followers are quite upset that she shamelessly promotes fur. It seems to be the first misstep she golden girl has made since being catapulted to superstardom. It certainly won't be the last. A superstar is, after all, just a human.
* Gigi Hadid is the daughter of the wealthy real estate developer Mohammed Hadid and the Dutch Beverly Hills Housewife Yolanda Foster. Multiple Grammy winner David Foster (the stepfather of Brody Jenner) is also her stepfather and she grew up in a dream villa in Malibu.
