“Hey Jet, do you want to go to Saint Tropez for two days to get fit?” Danie Bles asked me on the phone recently. You understand that I didn’t have to think long about it. Monday at half past five in the morning I was with my suitcase at Schiphol together with about 18 other fashion and sporty bloggers and foodies. Nice people, like Yara Michels, Lizzy van der Ligt, Liza Chloë van Duyn, Annic van Wonderen, Abbey Hoes, Aranka, and Miljuschka. All invited by Danie Bles and Glamour for a trip to the Côte d’Azur where it was all about the Glamour Health Challenge. Get ready, this was an incredible sweet trip, so there will be a lot of gifts, beautiful hotels, and nice restaurants coming up. And so immediately #tipsfromjet.
Hotel debacle
We stayed at Villa Marie, Danie’s favorite hotel, and I understood immediately why. At the entrance, you could already see from the gravel path that this would be an incredibly comfortable night. A courtyard with beautiful iron elegant white chairs with cushions that you wanted to take home, and that there was a gardener present every day was also immediately clear. The staff wore elegant white suits with here and there a crossbody Chanel bag. Oh, and I haven’t even started about my room. A clawfoot bathtub, a rain shower you never want to leave, and a bed so big and high (I love high) that you definitely sleep through the alarm. But first, I had to find a way to get into that bed since it was full of goodies. The most delightful products from Biotherm, a nice kaftan, a toiletry bag with my initials, and especially a lot of sportswear from Björn Borg, because we were going to work out a lot in the 24 hours that followed.
We had lunch at La Plage des Salins. With my feet in the sand on a blue cotton chair, I ate halibut tartare with avocado, accompanied by (of course) a glass of Minuty, a very light rosé. It’s not a big fancy place, but a small restaurant on a kind of private beach where people come who also have a house in Monaco. Plenty to look around at, I love that.
A bit dazed after lunch, I hopped on a mega speedboat that took us to a really fun hippie-like water sports school. I wore a swimsuit from Zoe Karssen that said International Jet-Set, and I quickly realized that was an incredibly fitting choice.
I climbed onto a surfboard because we were going stand-up paddleboarding. You know, with a paddle. I had never done that before, but I had seen it with Cameron Diaz, and it looked really cool. I must admit that I quickly lay down on the board to start on my base tan. We were handed weights, and for Fajah Lourens, it was shoulder day that day, so she gave us a lesson. Phew, I still feel that.
After paddleboarding, we had a little yoga class, and it turned out to be a kind of bikram, so full in the sun. It was incredibly fun, but I did realize that I hadn’t done that in way too long. What a stiff board I was, I must say. I’ll just blame the heat.
We had dinner at an Asian restaurant. “Once a kind of bunker, but now the coolest place in Saint Tropez,” Danie told us. A place where I would immediately want to get married. Everywhere were strings of colored lights and a view over land and sea, as beautiful as a postcard. We mainly had sushi, and then I ate a delicious fish cooked in banana leaves. For dessert, a huge platter of fresh fruit.
At midnight, everyone was nodding off, so I quickly zoomed into the most comfortable bed in the world.
Tomorrow I’ll tell you how day two was.
