Hoe je je haar doet

The ponytail is quite a thing this autumn. At Michael Kors it was low and textured and at Caroline Herrera it was incredibly smooth. Dior, Erin Fetherston, and Nicole Miller also sent the models down the catwalk with a very long ponytail. We need that too. It all sounds ridiculously simple, but the perfect ponytail requires some steps. Chanel from The Building AMS does it at the Express Bar in a few minutes for you, but in case you want to create the hair-do yourself, we also filmed it.

Was it all a bit too fast? Here’s the detailed version so you know exactly how to do it all yourself. Or rather, how you must do it. For that perfect ponytail you need to have all autumn.

Step 1 – Sectioning

Divide your hair into two sections from ear to ear. At this point, you can also decide how high you want the ponytail to be. Secure the top section with a clip.

Step 2 – Securing

This sounds strange, but tilt your head back a bit. This way you can secure the ponytail really tight. Pull the bottom part very tight and secure it with a small elastic band. Then you can secure the ponytail even tighter. For the small baby hairs and loose strands, use hairspray.

Step 3 – Blow-drying for volume

Now you’re going to work on the top section of your hair. Spray a little with Redken's Fashion Wave Spray to give your hair more volume. Use a narrow round brush to blow-dry your hair and then secure all the sections with a bouclé clip. If you find it difficult to blow-dry with a brush, use a brush dryer. It makes it a lot easier. Then let everything cool down and use some hairspray. Tease the hair a bit, use some powder dust for a stiffer effect, and then secure the entire top section to the bottom ponytail.

Step 4 – Loosening

It sounds a bit strange, but for a nice, casual effect, you need to pull out some strands. Otherwise, it all looks too done. Also, wrap a strand from the bottom around the ponytail. This hides the elastic band. Secure the strand with a bobby pin.

Step 5 – Finishing touch

Almost done. Just use some shine spray and hairspray and you’re good to go.
