Make-up bag

Jet van Nieuwkerk

Dearest Jet has this time entrusted her makeup bag to me. She probably won't care much, because natural Jet is not really her thing when it comes to makeup. All the more reason for me to worry, because what if I get a nearly empty bag? I'm already thinking about a survival strategy. But what do my nervous hands receive?

A richly filled Chanel bag packed with lovely little things. What a candy store, I must say. Two foundations from Chanel, no less, a bronzer (Dior), blush (Bobbi Brown), four (!) mascaras (Estée Lauder, Givenchy, Loox, Lancôme), some lip products (Yves Saint Laurent, Iredale Mineral) and holy moly what a brush, you could paint walls with that. Then my gaze lands on a bottle of ‘vitamin D3-drops’, which I expected from our health princess Jet. No idea this existed, by the way.

With courage and curiosity, I dive into the bag. To my great surprise, the foundations are not that light at all, which Jet's clear skin would suggest. I start applying, and the colors 30 and 20 cover my somewhat tanned skin fabulously. No sponge to apply it with, unfortunately, so that means washing hands (before and after). It feels like a mascara party with four pieces in the bag. I start with the one from Givenchy, as it's new to me. A mascara with a small round brush, I assume this is for the outer upper lashes. Right, Jet? That Grandiôse from Lancôme is really nice. It only needs one layer and makes your lashes full and long. I leave the other two as they are; my lashes are perfect. No eyeliner, pencil, or eyeshadow in sight. A bit sad for my eyes that really ask for decoration. But okay, this is the Jet look, so I decide to go for it. What do we have there? My beauty heart skips a beat. A nice greasy light pink lipstick from Yves Saint Laurent (clean it later, okay Jetje). That really brightens things up. Oh yes, we also had that magnificent brush. I decide to use it for applying the bronzer, which happens to be my color. And it works like a charm! In no time, my skin is tinted a brown color. Lastly, I apply the blush from Bobbi Brown, which you can also use as lip balm. The huge brush isn't really suited for that; the blush ends up a bit everywhere.

But after some blending, the result isn't so bad. With full lashes, a pink little mouth, and a sunkissed face, I leave my house beaming.

I’m impressed! Jet's makeup bag is a gem. It's neat, contains high-quality products (you can never have enough mascaras, I get it), and there's been thought put into it. Jet also has a small tube of body lotion and products that can be used in multiple ways (Pot Rouge, Bobbi Brown). The vitamin D3 drops turn out to need to go in your shake and since Jet takes two healthy ones a day, I find it incredibly sharp to have those in your makeup bag. The three words that come to mind when judging the bag: smart, quality, and healthy. You go, girl.

Complimentary as I am, there are of course some missed opportunities in Jet's bag. Her tweezers are a flop; I couldn't pull out a single hair with them. There was also no eyeliner, eye pencil, or eyeshadow in sight. Not that bad, really, because Jet rocks the natural look like no other. Still, I can imagine that a light eyeshadow color would suit Jet well. To my great surprise and secretly also disappointment, Jet is missing the necessary eyebrow products. How does she shape those hairs so well? A mystery that is immediately solved. Because luckily for Jet (less so for me at that moment), she forgot to put those in the bag. Phew.

Finally, let's talk about that enormous brush. It's a-ma-zing. But Jetje, this really doesn't work for applying blush. So I would say; add a small brush to it, and then your bag deserves a solid ten.
