My life in a bag
With amanda rijff
It’s Tuesday again. And that means it’s time for a new bag. We’d like to introduce you to Amanda Rijff, who is a makeup artist.
How many bags do you have?
‘A lot. Especially if you count the clutches. About 40, and I’m not exaggerating.’
What is the story behind this bag?
‘In my bag wardrobe, I naturally have a few favorites including my Céline trio bags, the Chanel bags, and those from Lanvin, Saint Laurent, Chloé, Prada, Pierre Hardy. And the Duffy Bag, but I’m also a big fan of Vlieger & Vandam. I found the Lanvin bag in San Francisco. A small rib from my body, but I’m still very happy with it and currently use this bag the most. Probably because it can take a beating.‘
How do you handle your bag?
‘I’m not extremely careful with bags. They go in the bike crate, even in less favorable weather. A bag is and remains a utility item. In bad weather, I do leave my partially suede Saint Laurent bag at home.’
What about the content?
‘It’s an organized mess. I’m often on the go and don’t like to misgrab. So there’s all sorts of stuff in there, but generally, each item has a fixed place.’
What do you always have with you?
‘As a master makeup artist, I have at least five lipsticks and balms in my bag that I mix. You’ll also find my notebook and planner, iPhone, fast charger, keys, and at least two fragrances that I like to mix in as well. Plus business cards, gum or Smints, and hand sanitizer.’
What do you think are the best features of a bag?
‘I see a bag as an accessory. It should complement your outfit, be practical (not always), and functional. Nice leather like calfskin is also important to me. It’s the type that only gets more beautiful the more you use the bag.’
Which one is still on your wishlist?
‘I find the Céline Saddle Bag very nice, but a Lanvin Happy Bag is of course also welcome.’
