Our second day in Milan started at the headquarters of Tod’s. Behind gigantic doors, we enter a breathtakingly beautiful hall, with towering ceilings, marble everywhere, warm mahogany details, and large photos featuring the latest Tod’s campaign.
A small authentic lift that just fits the three of us takes us upstairs, to the most beautiful ‘meeting room’ you have ever seen. Sofas with a thousand cushions where you can disappear, antique tables, windows all around, coffee table books everywhere – it was truly a picture. We were allowed to take photos, but not publish them. Unfortunately, some doors really must remain closed.
After Tod’s, we walk along Corso Venetia where we stroll past beautiful shop windows, including that of Dolce & Gabbana. And there, we found love. The store was filled with pieces made especially for that store.
Bags, shoes, jewelry, all unique and nowhere in the world for sale except there. There was a particular bag that made us both terribly restless and how that exactly ended you'll read later today. So stay tuned.
Just as I shook off the worst Dolce hysteria, a few buildings down was the Disney store where we of course had to pop in. May to buy gifts for the kids, me to stare at the Elsa dresses that I can't fit. I almost bought an Olaf, but I managed to control myself. While May filled her basket, I waited in the kids' corner, where I saw a piece of a huge informative and oh so educational film about dogs.
We then have a little less than two hours until our next appointment and we spend those two hours at the Diana Majestica. A mega impressive hotel with especially a mega impressive indoor garden.
By a pond, in the sun, draped in a lovely lounge chair, we order a glass of white wine (maybe 2) and a table full of goodies. We tap our pieces and every 5 minutes one of us sighs, “God, how lovely it is here.”
We could easily have stayed there for the rest of our lives, but we had to take a taxi to the next meeting: with Gucci.
Then there’s another one with Anthony Morato and then it’s about 6:00 PM and we head towards the hotel for a quick freshen up before we go to the restaurant of the evening: Rosy e Gabriele.
If you ever find yourself in Milan, make sure to go here. It’s a real Italian, without excessive embellishments but with just very good food. The service is incredibly friendly, May and I both fell head over heels for our sweet slightly clumsy waiter, who exclaimed that everything was “tres spettaaaaacolo” and then, to be fair, also brought heart-wrenchingly delicious food to the table. Including my pizza, which came in the shape of a heart. Really, I felt like I was in his hands.
When we are both stuffed to the brim, we roll into a taxi and head back to the hotel. And just like yesterday, I am now lying in the soft hotel bed with my laptop on my lap typing this. Now let's hope that my round pizza belly and I don't roll out of bed. Fingers crossed. A domani!
