My new
DECLUTTERING RESOLUTIONS
May-Britt sometimes calls me “the most bipolar woman I know” and she has a point. My house is for example always either intensely tidy or an intense mess. To be honest, the latter is more often the case than the former and I don't like it at all. A messy house leads to a messy mind and every day I get annoyed by it. Last week I had another decluttering frenzy and my house is now neatly tidy and in order. Wonderful. And I’m going to keep it that way, so the next decluttering resolutions are now high on the agenda. Will you join me?
Clean up every evening
The biggest reason my house becomes a mess is because I don't clean up regularly enough. In the evenings after lounging on the couch, I roll straight into bed, leaving the cushions, blanket, and any cups and glasses just standing there. I need to stop that. From now on, I will clean up the mess I made that day every evening for just a few minutes. It only takes five minutes instead of an hour at the end of the week.
Everything has its own place
There are always little messes that linger around and they can go in a clutter box. But further, you need to arrange things so that everything has its own spot, so you can put it back there after use.
Setting priorities
So often I just don't feel like doing the dishes that I let it pile up for three days. I shouldn't do that anymore, just make some effort and wash those few plates and glasses. First the dishes, then I can do fun things afterwards.
Cleaning before it’s necessary
I had a cleaner for a while but I recently stopped that because I’m working more from home and can do it perfectly myself. But then I need to stop waiting to clean until I see that it’s dirty; I need to prevent that.
Doing laundry more regularly
At May's, the washing machine runs all day every day, at my place it’s only once a week. At most. I have a lot of clothes and especially an insane amount of underwear and socks, and quite often I only do laundry once every one and a half weeks. By the way, it also comes from the fact that I absolutely hate doing laundry. But that means my laundry basket is overflowing and that leads to mess. No more of that, just a neat load of laundry every week. For example, while cleaning. Oh guys, I’m going to become so mature.
