This is how you choose the best photo from now on
BY QUEEN OF JET LAGS
We always talk about how we can improve our photos, what we need to learn to edit a photo and how we can get the most beautiful Instagram account. But before we can even edit that photo, there is a process. And usually, it's quite a long process, in which we have to choose the best photo to edit.
It goes something like this. You have a trillion photos taken, but you have no idea which one you actually like the most. They all secretly look quite similar, but still, they are totally different in so many ways. Sounds familiar, right? It doesn't matter if you've taken 100 selfies, had to shoot a number of magazine shots, or just wanted to capture an outfit, we always end up with many more photos than we would like. Now I can waste hours of my time focusing too much on small details or on photos that I just don't like that much. Therefore, I have come up with a few tips and tricks to prevent this from happening in the future.
Ask your friend to choose
Men are brutal and honest, and that's why this is usually the best target group to ask for advice. To keep things somewhat in check, I first make a selection before showing it to him, so my friend only has to choose between photo 1 or photo 2.
Decide which element is the most important
Whether it's a selfie is, an outfit photo or a lifestyle shot, there is always something you want to convey. For example, if I have new shoes, I want to make sure they stand out in an outfit photo. If I post a selfie, I want to show myself at my best, and if it's a lifestyle photo, I want to convey the best vibe from it. So before you go through those trillion photos, first think about what you want to show.
Give your photos a rating
When you go through your photos for the first time, give them a rating right away. Your first feeling is usually the best. When you go through them a second time, there's point 1. On the computer, I use Light Room to give my photos stars, and on the iPhone, I use the little hearts to place my photos in my favorites.
When I'm stuck, I go through my Instagram feed and decide what attracts me to a photo within one second. If you start with Instagram and get your mind into this mode, you can also use that way of thinking for your own photos. This always works for me.
