STAR GAZING IN THE SNOW

Last week we talked about winter sports at the office. For years, I went every spring with my family and another family to Les Gets, a ski village in the French Portes du Soleil. In recent years, that hasn't happened for various reasons, but secretly I miss it enormously, because skiing is awesome. Many famous and wealthy types agree, who love to go down the slopes in their expensive and stylish suits. Where can you spot them? Well, a press release from HomeAway.nl told me that, which happened to pop into my email right after our conversation. And I'm sharing that with you now, so you at least know where to go.

Lech

Ideal for anyone who enjoys a royal touch, because since 1960 this has been the regular spot of the royal family. Beatrix, Máxima, Wim-Lex, and the princesses have their annual photo moment here and are otherwise left alone, but if you just go there yourself, you have a week-long view of the king and queen of our country. Isn't that nice?.

St. Moritz

In the Swiss St. Moritz, skiing may not be the main event, as it's all about seeing and being seen. In the past, Charlie Chaplin and Marlene Dietrich loved to come here, nowadays you can trip over the Swedish royal family, Angela Merkel, Robbie Williams, and Madonna.

Aspen

You just have to cross the pond, but once you arrive in Aspen, Colorado, it's star spotting until you can't see straight. It has become an unaffordable place, because when Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson, Charlie Sheen, Cameron Diaz, and Kevin Costner like to come here, the prices naturally go up.

Verbier

Closer to home is Verbier, in the Swiss ski area Les 4 Vallées. Especially suitable for people who enjoy a party because après-ski is quite a thing here. You immediately understand why Prince Harry and Sarah Ferguson like to come here.

Zermatt

Flying over to Switzerland, there lies Zermatt. With a car-free center (very chic of course) and a fantastic view of the Matterhorn. Phil Collins, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Madonna, and Kate Middleton also think so.

Sölden

Tyrol may make you think more of ordinary refueling than of glitter and glamour, but since the village of Sölden has been used as a filming location for the new James Bond film Spectre, a huge change is coming.
