She is size 52, 1.65 meters tall, and has completely shaken up the fashion world last week. Tess Holliday landed a contract with MiLk Model Management and is now the largest model ever signed by a mainstream modelsagency.

A scout from the agency in London discovered Tess on Instagram where she has a massive following, more than 400,000 to be exact, which is more than most ‘regular’ models. “She is a great role model for many women,” said the owner of the agency. And Tess herself calls it ‘a milestone in fashion history’ that a woman of her size will now also be seen. Something she has been fighting for a long time. She created the hashtag #EffYourBeautyStandards to encourage women all over the world to love their bodies, no matter how big or heavy they are.

The entry of this big mama into the modeling world is not only met with cheers. Plus-size models typically have a maximum size of 48 and are at least 1.70 meters tall. Tess exceeds this by a wide margin. The criticism is that she would be unhealthy and obese and that this should not be glorified. However, the modeling agency is confident that their new show pony is healthy. “I am very active. I work out four times a week with a trainer, I swim and walk,” said the 29-year-old model. In the meantime, Tess is already hard at work and recently posed for Vogue Italia.
