The nicest food markets
If I'm not hungover, then I dutifully stand at the market every Saturday. You really don't have to go to a store to do your grocery shopping. And it's often much cheaper at the market. You won't find a basket full of vegetables and fruits for a tenner that quickly in the supermarket. There are also plenty of nice food markets, which are a bit different from regular markets. Often there are stalls from restaurants that have a small eatery where you can taste delicious treats or specialty shops that sell their specialties. So you too, if you're not too hungover, should stop by on the weekend. But do go with an empty stomach and arrange to meet a friend for coffee, because there's plenty of that and you can definitely fill your belly.
ZUIDERMARKT
This one is located in a small square in Amsterdam-Zuid. Very cute. The tastiest artisanal stalls are there. A small olive vendor, the best baker in the city, nice sausage makers, and a vegetable jeweler. Here it definitely applies: bring your wallet. But it's really fun.
Organic Farmers Market Noordermarkt
I recently wrote about the most delicious apple pie you can eat there. There's an oyster man who, if you look at him sweetly, will let you taste one. Rows of the tastiest cheeses, a small pancake tent, and the most beautiful flowers that have just been freshly picked. There's also a section with vintage clothing and jewelry. You can also browse there.
Neighbour Foodmarket
This market is at the Westergasterrein, but it doesn't take place there every weekend. Just here check the agenda. If you want, you could really hang out here all day. Plenty of food stalls, wooden tables, and benches where you can sit down, and there's plenty of wine.
Markthal
This is an indoor food paradise. Dozens of kitchens from all over the world prepare small dishes there. It's fun to wander around with a spring roll (just an example) in your hand or to find a spot for a bite to eat. This type of market is open seven days a week. You can also easily do your grocery shopping there. Think of it as one very large caterer.
Fenix Food Factory
This one is also covered. You can find this market in Fenixloods 2 in Katendrecht. From Wednesday to Sunday, you can find fresh products here. On Sundays, there's also nice jazz music, so the brewer comes in handy. Additionally, there's a cheese maker, coffee roaster, and bakery. All artisanal.
Organic Fair
“A super cozy atmosphere, beautiful products, nice music, fun people, and much more,” it says on their site. Sounds like good news to me. You can do your grocery shopping for home or hang out a bit there for a snack and a drink. Everything is organic, and the products are sold by people who have a lot of love for food.
Also check here the agenda for when and where this market is open.
THE REGIONAL MARKET
Every first Sunday of the month, it's a party at Mariaplaats.
Homemade jams, towers of cupcakes, the tastiest sausages, plenty of fish, and freshly baked bread. For your shopping basket or to eat at long picnic tables.
Organic Farmer's Market Limburg
Every Thursday, Stationsstraat is transformed into a fair. Products from the region, fresh nuts, bread, and vegetables and fruit. Here and there, there's plenty to taste, and there are also seats, but this market is mainly for doing real grocery shopping for home.
