THE MUST-HAVE OF THIS WINTER

– 5 reasons to embrace Garance Doré's book –

For a few weeks, I have been in South Africa South Africa and aside from not being able to use a hairdryer and having to make do with a sparsely filled toiletry bag – thank you very much – it is of course incredibly nice. And yes, I had fun. And no, I did not feel homesick. Although I must admit that homesickness hit me more and more in the last few days because of Instagram. On Instagram, I saw a lot, a lot of photos from bloggers who had Garance Doré's book and that book looked so incredibly cute that I had to have it too. No bookstore in all of South Africa where that book could be found (‘Garance who?’), so at some point, I started to feel a bit bummed. Especially when Simone posted that she also had the book and I then knew that the entire editorial team had already seen it and I had not yet.

I had to get this book as soon as I got home. Tried, but almost everywhere sold out, and thank God Sinterklaas had already managed to get it and so it ended up in my shoe. And now I’m going to tell you, lovely ladies, that you, just like Sinterklaas, really need to do your utmost to get this book in your house, because believe me; it is worth everything.*

Because this book has the most beautiful design

My heart beats much faster for a book that has good looks. I actually don’t even open a book with bad looks, it’s that bad with me. Now it has Garance Doré about a hundred talents in it and two of those talents are that it has an incredibly beautiful handwriting and that it can put the most amazing illustrations on paper. So yes, I feel connected to her. And I really can’t imagine that there are people in the world who do not appreciate this.

Because Garance hits the right tone

Garance can also write terribly funny besides the above talents. With the necessary self-mockery (just read the chapter about the origin of her short haircut) and well-timed jokes. It all sounds very easy, but it is incredibly difficult to hit the right tone.

Because you bring out the inner Parisienne in yourself

And believe me, we can still learn something from the Parisienne. Nice, that do-just-normal-then-you're-crazy-enough Dutch behavior, but whether we score high on the good looking ladder with that remains to be seen. The Parisiennes have a style that lasts forever and it doesn’t have to be that difficult. Actually, Garance just says it’s très simple. Handy, right?

Seems like a clear story. Diane and Garance joining forces and giving us all the tips and tricks for the best business. Well, I think we all want to achieve that.

Because this book will never go out of style

Because the tips and tricks in the book have no expiration date. The illustrations are eternal works of art and the texts are quotes that will stay with you your whole life. So actually, it’s a style bible for eternity.
