This is how you find the perfect wedding dress
Nope, I don't have big news to share. Still very happily unmarried with my love, for thirteen years. But as a style advisor, I do see a role in advising on the right wedding dress, because there are a lot of dragon dresses out there. And you definitely need to shine on your day. So that no one else is the prettiest.
Since you only buy a wedding dress at most two or three times in your life (just kidding), you can't afford a miss. But you're not a wedding dress expert, so it's all quite tricky. I'll give you some tips that will help you find your perfect piece. One that makes your fiancé feel wobbly and even brings tears to your mother-in-law's eyes.
Shop alone
Or with a friend who always gives you good advice when shopping. Don't think that you have to take your mother-in-law with you ‘because that's how it should be’. She probably has a different interest in the dress than you do. Don't let yourself be distracted by all those opinions. I often have bad purchases when I shop with friends. Or at least I come back with something that my beloved doesn't feel very warm about. Think of hysterical things that men don't understand.
Forget the fashion for a moment
That wedding portrait should last at least five years (just kidding), so it's important that even your children, who will see your wedding photos later, think: wow, she looked good.
So forget the trends and go for something that makes you look beautiful.
Sla strapless over
Aside from the fact that it's quite rare to look good in a strapless dress, it's not very handy for the photos and the film. Many portrait photos will be taken, and if they are cropped a bit closely, it looks like you were standing there naked. With a veil on your head.
Then the veil
I find a veil tricky. It suits the virginal bride who is led to the altar by her father and presented to her fresh husband. Jet thinks it's very sweet, Liesbeth (are you asking this of me?) thinks it looks nice from a fashion perspective at the back of your head under a bun, but immediately adds that she finds it terribly outdated. My point is that you have to be careful not to become a caricature on such a day. With your bouquet and your veil.
Don't go salon shopping
Of course, you need to try on a lot of dresses. As many as you can, I would say. But I would stick to one bridal boutique. Otherwise, you'll really drive yourself crazy. Choose that store that sells your top three brands and where you feel good, and stay there. One more tip; always go shopping in the morning. Then the staff is cheerful and fresh and not worn out by all those hysterical brides and their mothers-in-law.
Don't be shocked by the size
Wedding dresses often have large sizes. They do this because taking them in is simply easier than explaining with these kinds of dresses. Don't cry if the label on your dress says size 42 and just be very proud if it gets taken in a lot.
Take photos
A photo says more than fourteen mirrors. So take photos of yourself in the dress. It should look good in those and definitely not make you look fat. Not every bridal boutique likes it if you take photos, so call ahead to see if it's allowed.
I would say; good luck and make sure you become the most beautiful.
