This is how you survive December
Actually, it's quite ridiculous that they have placed the most intense and cold month of the year right at the end. You are already exhausted and worn out from having kept yourself up for a year, and then you also have to deal with December. Utterly unfair. Anyway, I give you tips and tricks to somewhat survive the situation.
Go away
My medicine for just about everything: book a ticket to the sun. Those who have nothing to do with Christmas can fly on December 25th, when prices are remarkably low, just like on the 31st by the way. No time or money for a long distant vacation? A weekend in Paris, London, or Berlin works wonders too.
Cancel all your appointments
Or at least as many as possible. Just stay inside the whole month of December bunkering and cocooning, god how wonderful. Maybe you have to go to the supermarket for new toilet paper every now and then, but that's about it; you just have food and drinks delivered to your home. Or by the way, Albert Heijn has a delivery service so scratch that, you really stay inside for a month. This way you kill two birds with one stone, because you don't have to brave the freezing cold and you have minimal contact with people who do love December and will try to convince you of their point.
Buy something warm
As in: a very, very warm sweater. So that every time it’s freezing cold again, you can be very satisfied with your warm sweater and forget that it’s -8000 outside.
Deprive yourself of nothing
If you don't have a vacation in sight, you also don't have to wear a bikini soon. Ergo: bring on the pepernoten and oliebollen. Fit girls always say “summer bodies are made in winter”, but that's all very responsible, so we’ll just ignore that for a moment.
Go for the fireplace
The whole day please. With a large glass of red wine and a series on Netflix in front of you. You don't do that so quickly (or just not at all) in the summer, so December is perfect for that. Don't have a fireplace at home? Hit up friends who do have one, move back to your parents' house, and if that all fails, visit one of these eateries where you can comfortably drape yourself in front of a crackling fire.
