THIS IS HOW YOU DON'T GAIN WEIGHT
during the holidays
We're already counting down the days to the holidays and most people have probably already decided to only start “acting normal” again on January 1, because December 5, 24, 25, and 31 are days when you just stuff yourself, right? That can happen, but it doesn't have to, of course. In fact: I don't like feeling overly full at all. It really happens, because set a table full of French cheeses, charcuterie, and fresh baguettes and my stomach becomes a bottomless pit, but I try to prevent that. Especially when so many days in a row are coming up where it's one big feast.
I'll give you tips on how to avoid overeating during the holidays, so you don't have to completely change course again on January 1. There's really no need for that.
- You really don't have to leave anything behind to “watch it a little”. It's all about moderation. So serve yourself some mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, roast beef, or roulade. Allow yourself to enjoy eating. Take small portions.
- Don't eat very little a few days beforehand just to indulge around Christmas. That backfires. Make sure you eat regularly and keep your metabolism going. A little run never hurts.
- Speaking of running. I understand that you don't want to be in the gym early on Christmas Day. I wouldn't wish that for you, but I can highly recommend a nice Christmas walk. It also helps to get over your hangover. Before you know it, you've been walking for two hours. Well, then you'll be hungry for the next meal again. And that will feel well-deserved.
- Did you know that champagne, prosecco, and vodka have fewer calories than wine? Good reason to stick with the bubbly all night, I would say.
- Share the desserts, that's always less than having your own plate.
- Eat slowly. Fortunately, you have time for that too. This way, you'll feel full for much longer. If you eat quickly, you might let out a burp (excuse me) and can continue. Not charming.
- Oh yes, if you're going out to eat for Christmas, I have here some tips. But do remember: it's a celebration, so please don't be too strict.
- Will I see you in the gym on January 1? Just kidding.
