The camera makes you look thicker. TV cameras are the worst, but a photo camera is also not our best friend size-wise. But there are ways to better showcase your own bodily divinity. Listen to my slimming tips and you'll be the queen of Instagram.

Ensure length

Short makes you look bulky, so ask the person you are photographing to take the photo from below. Frog perspective gives length and also creates other good side effects. Just read here.

Twist your upper body

I remember a press trip to the home of Victoria and David Beckham where Victoria twisted her body and profile, placed her foot slightly forward, let her lips part like a mare that was allowed to roam in the meadow after a long winter, and then turned her upper body towards the photographer.

That twist gives your body a silhouette that makes you look much slimmer than in a straightforward image.

Ensure space between arms and waist

If your arms are too close to your body, it looks like you have no waist. Therefore, naturally place one hand on your hip and let your other hand rest on the strap of your bag. Two hands on the hips looks a bit farmer-like, but you need to ensure a glimpse between waist and arm.

Laughing makes you look wide

Laughing is the most fun, but it makes you wrinkly and often gives you a somewhat wide head because your cheeks are pushed up. Therefore, laugh with your eyes or laugh ‘downward’ by letting your lower jaw drop instead of laughing ‘wide’. Just look at top models, all have a smile with a downward jaw movement. Yes guys, a good shot is not easy.

Tongue against your teeth

Another model trick. While you smile a bit, press the tip of your tongue against the inside of your upper row of teeth. This brings your cheekbones forward better.

Shoulders towards each other

The typical Vogue pose. Put your arms on your hips (this is allowed here), turn one leg slightly inward and push your shoulders together at the front. It won't get any thinner.

Good luck!
