Where do porn stars come from?

My house is right next to the Amsterdam Red Light District, and I've spent enough Saturday nights there in one of the many brown cafes. The Red Light District is indeed a huge spectacle, but it is also incredibly sad. Sometimes. All those women who throw their bodies into the purchase for hordes of lame tourists always make me wonder: why?

Why would you stand there? What has happened in your life that this was the answer? The same question applies to porn stars. Why would you let yourself be worked over by all sorts of things, film it, throw it out into the world, and often end up with a crappy salary? Those kinds of questions are what the documentary Hot Girls Wanted tries to answer. American filmmakers Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus followed young girls who start working as amateur porn actresses in Miami for their film. The girls live with a 23-year-old talent scout and say ‘yes’ to almost every job.

There are some pretty nasty situations in it. The girls, around 18 and 19 years old, often have to have sex with much older and sleazy men, pretend to be raped, or give blowjobs until they start to vomit. Not pretty. The film promises to give a non-judgmental view of the amateur porn industry and show how that strange half-hidden world works. All in all, it is a confronting film that alternately makes you laugh and almost cry, but is at least really very fascinating. Not very suitable to watch with your parents by the way, and the trailer you can check here, which is already a lot cleaner, but it's better not to play it in a quiet workplace where everyone is listening in.
