Which running shoes are perfect?

That was a question from a female reader who emailed me. Nice question. She wanted to buy shoes online. I found it quite difficult to give her advice because it really varies per foot, your weight, what kind of ground you run on, and whether you want to go for long or short distances. And then I think that the look also matters, so they should look a bit nice. A lot to pay attention to, then. I will give you tips for buying the perfect running shoe, but you really have to go to the store for that.

– Go to a store that specializes in running shoes, so where there is also a treadmill in the store where you can feel the shoes while running. This is really important.

– Think carefully about what you will use the shoes for. Long distances, short distances, and what kind of ground you run on. Once you have made that choice, a whole selection of shoes immediately falls away. That's handy.

– You should not feel any irritation or pressure points on your instep, as that can lead to injuries or irritations later. Your big toe should also have at least half a centimeter of space.

– Always try on the shoes with a sock that you would also wear while running. That way you can be sure you will buy the right size.

– Don't be surprised if you have a larger size for your running shoes than your regular shoes. I often have 1.5 to 2 sizes larger.

– Oh yes, never skimp on running shoes. No injuries are the most important. Now, the most expensive shoes don't necessarily have to be the best, but you understand what I mean. Be kind to your feet.

– Once you have found the perfect shoe, you can buy the same type online later, but I prefer to advise you to go to a store. Every month, new models and colors appear. It's better to see and feel those with your own eyes. Good luck!
