Why the heck is everyone suddenly using ‘bae’?!
Suddenly, out of nowhere, as if it were collectively agreed upon, everyone uses the word ‘bae’ to refer to their loved one. Bae stands for “before anyone else” and thus means “you are the most important in my life.” Not only do fourteen-year-old girls pout about their bae, but adult men also shamelessly say things like “me and bae, for ever and always.”.
And also just on Facebook and Instagram, so I have to witness all of that. One cheesy, overly sweet photo after another is thrown onto the web, and we watch passively. But okay, that's a problem that has been around for a while. What drives me completely crazy is the specific use of ‘bae.’ And I can't really explain why, but it drives me to madness.
Maybe because it's so totallyover the top and hysterically sweet. Maybe because I mainly think of Beatrix every time someone starts talking about ‘bae.’ And maybe because I totally associate it with thirteen-year-old wobbly teenagers with blonde pigtails who are in love with Rick from sixth grade, and desperately call him ‘bae’ while calculating how well their last names match.
That normal men would start exhibiting this behavior just doesn't register with me. I'm all for breaking stereotypes when it comes to men and women, but this just goes too far for me. For heaven's sake, be a bit of a man. So please tell me that you are not also participating in this hopelessly futile word hype. Because it really falls into exactly the same category as #blessed and #lovemylife, and you certainly don't participate in that, do you? Just saying., Suddenly, out of nowhere, as if it were collectively agreed upon, everyone uses the word 'bae' to refer to their loved one.
