SHOPPING IN NEW YORK
I'll take you back to New York for a moment.
Of course, I don't walk past the department store Bergdorf Goodman without taking a look inside, but I'm even more excited about Whole Foods at Dean & Deluca. You know me by now. Whole Foods was so incredibly hysterical that I tried multiple times to fill my basket with goodies for home, but each time I ended up running away screaming with just a few green bars and a bag of vegetable chips.
Dean & Deluca on the other hand, god how should I put it? Cartier among jewelers? Something like that? You definitely need to bring a thick wallet, but since I prefer to spend my money on food, I'm willing to do it. I bought the most expensive coconut yogurt ever. I think the container was empty after three bites (so small but so delicious) and I paid over 10 dollars for it. The same goes for a bottle of freshly squeezed vegetable juice. I just pushed the price out of my mind.
Backstage Food
May-Britt got to go backstage a few times with Maartje Verhoef. Our 16-year-old Dutch pride who walks almost every major show during Fashion Week. It varies by designer how big the lunch table is where the models can snack, but at Michael Kors it was one big healthy supermarket.
Sigh, I wish I had been there... What is now totally hip among the models is a slice of apple with a good layer of peanut butter and granola on top. Odd, but seems quite tasty to me. There were also rows of ginger shots from Juice Press. The juice bar of New York.
Time for lunch
Ideally, I would rent an apartment in New York for half a year to test a new lunch spot every day. There is too much fun to try out in just one week. Tips for now are: Café Gitane, you can't make reservations, so come a bit early. Mercer Kitchen: located on one of the nicest streets in New York and it's especially cozy to share small bites. Butcher’s Daughter: I had an amazing Kale Salad there and Restaurant Morandi for the delicious burrata.
Most beautiful gym in the world
Besides Soul Cycle and a jog around our neighborhood Chelsea, I absolutely had to go to Central Park. On the last day, very fancy, I took a taxi with May and cameraman Sacha to film my run. It was almost the coldest day of the week. Seriously, it was almost impossible. On film, it may look like I'm running a few kilometers, but in real life, it was no more than one. May-Britt sweetly ran behind me with my winter coat that I occasionally put on to warm up, but oh how beautiful Central Park looked. The squirrels were running through the crackling fresh snow and I jogged behind them as a very happy person. Just a few meters, but still...
Welcome home dinner
Arriving in the Netherlands, I took a little afternoon nap to have dinner that evening at Wilde Zwijnen. I believe I dare to say it's one of the best restaurants in the city. Incredibly friendly and fast service, delicious wines, and it doesn't matter which dish you choose from the menu because everything is tasty, but I can highly recommend the Rib eye and the skate wing.
This must have been a Sunday
At 1 PM, I met up with my friends plus partners at Bar Spek. I started with a chia pudding with coconut milk and a few hours later ordered a bottle of white wine, grilled green peppers, and freshly baked bread with pea hummus. Those are really the best Sundays.
