4 CITIES IN AMERICA YOU MUST SEE (OKAY WANT...)
My third visit to America is on the agenda. And all of that in just over two years because before that I was way too chicken to even fly that far..But I'm convinced now. America is really the shit. Whether you find it all exaggerated or not (okay, there is something to be said: the annoying accents, absurdly large portions, ‘fake’ friendliness), I believe everyone should have been to America at least once in their life. Because I don't think it's fake at all. In fact, I find America incredibly interesting. And in reality, it's even better than on TV. Planning to go that way? These are the cities you must have seen at least once.
Los Angeles
The absolute best trip with my dearest friend was in LA. It all started with a work trip to interview some American actors, but of course, we added a few more days and the party could begin. Take a stroll in Hollywood and immerse yourself in the world of the film industry. You have to experience it at least once. The Hollywood Walk of Fame, driving towards Santa Monica and taking photos at the giant Ferris wheel, biking towards Venice Beach, gawking at ridiculously expensive houses in Beverly Hills, shopping on Rodeo Drive... This is quintessential America. Man, how I would love to go back.
Las Vegas
This one is still on the agenda, simply because I want to experience The Hangover scenes. Minus the decapitated giraffe because: sad. But joking aside, in an extremely prudish country like America, this is the place where the sex, drugs, and rock & roll culture really comes alive. Gambling, getting wasted, getting a tattoo, marrying an ugly Elvis for one night: everything is allowed here.
Chicago
The city is beautiful, green, pretty, cool. I was there a few months ago on a press trip with IcelandAir (read all about it back) and I'm still impressed by Chicago. Everywhere you have trendy rooftop bars where you can enjoy a glass of white wine, everyone is healthy, the juices are green, cigarettes don't exist, I seriously felt healthy here. What you definitely need to check out is Millennium Park east of the famous Michigan, even if it's just to take silly selfies at the Cloud Gate, a large reflective artwork about ten meters in the shape of a kind of kidney bean. Yes, and if you're going that way anyway, I insist you rent a bike and go picnic in one of the many green parks and eat blueberry pancakes at Little Goat Diner. Or for the brave: Fat Elvis Peanut Butter Waffles at 820 W Randolph St. Furthermore, DO NOT think about that name, just eat it. here Swallow. I've never been here and I find that quite a shame. Luckily, May seems to have a subscription to the city that never sleeps, so you can.
New York
be provided with plenty of tips. I had promised myself that I had to go there really quickly before I turned 25, so I immediately booked a ticket. My dear mom had never discovered NYC either, and since we thought it was absolutely unacceptable not to do that with her being over fifty, we're going together now. All the touristy delights will of course be crammed into that first NYC trip: Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, biking over the Brooklyn Bridge, and visits to Ground Zero and Central Park. Walking around in the dark among the hundreds of lights (now you can hear Alicia Keys in your ear: “These streets will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you…”). Seven more months. Sigh... here and here My third visit to America is on the agenda. And all of that in just over two years, because before that I was way too chicken to even fly that far...
