Carolien’s Fast Lane Life

For a long time, I wanted to keep this secret to myself, but now that I receive compliments about it daily, it’s time to share my secret with you... On The Big Day, I really wanted those beautiful long eyelashes, which I just don’t have naturally. Mom has been using the miracle product Revitalash for a few weeks, and I couldn’t believe my eyes: it was as if she had eyelash extensions! So yesterday, I was sitting in the makeup chair, and the makeup artist glanced at my eyelashes, then dared to ask if they were real or fake. Meanwhile, mom and daughter are also using Revitabrow on their way to those big eyebrows à la Cara. No trendy beauty blogs or glossy magazines: the best tips still come from di mamma...

The books and films of Mees Kees have been a hot topic in all primary schools for years. Every child wants to spend a day in Mr. Kees's class. Now I have the honor of experiencing a few days on set! As a true survival guide, I lead Mees Kees and his class through the woods along an exciting course. The director had envisioned a Lara Croft-type character, so my hair was tightly braided, and I’ve been walking around for days in this new hairstyle, hot pants, and army boots through the Utrecht woods. What does that look like? You’ll have to wait until next year to see it on TV...

I still find it difficult to pine away for 7 months in advance over all the new clothing collections, only to have to wait forever before you can actually wear those must-haves! The result: even though the sparrows are falling from the roof, I want to wear my new winter coat at all costs, which is of course still way too warm... So now that Monki is celebrating its tenth anniversary in September with a special edition winter coat, I had the perfect reason to show off my latest acquisition, despite the still summery temperatures. Luckily, Yootha was just as crazy as I was, and we wore this to-die-for teddy coat without a second thought. Fashion above function, dear people.

Now that our wedding is behind us, I had hoped for a few quiet weekends to enjoy our entire adventure together with my husband. But to my great dismay, our schedules are already completely booked again. Fortunately, the weekends are mainly filled with cozy dinner dates and birthdays. And as a ‘sweets’ expert, I am usually called upon to fix the B-day cake. No problem, guys! I have found a place that truly makes a work of art out of every cake. I ordered these two creations last month from Life of Pie, and next month there will be two more orders for birthdays plus our wedding party in the Netherlands. And of course, extensive tasting must be done for that...

When I’m abroad, I always immediately google the top 5 rooftop bars in town. What could be more delightful than enjoying a cocktail with a beautiful view over a city that’s still unknown to you? Fortunately, Amsterdam is also doing quite well with its rooftop bars. My favorite is the wet deck of the W Hotel: that view of the beautiful palace on the Dam is a party every time! And when Jon and I were drinking a glass of champagne here together for the first time as Mr. & Mrs. Karthaus, we received this beautiful box full of macarons as a congratulation. You understand: I now celebrate all my festive moments here, hoping for such a box full of joy...
